VW Golf GTD spotted in Bangalore

What's Golf GTD doing in Bangalore? Testing by VW or some automotive parts supplier?

Looks like emission testing/measuring equipment attached to the rear of the car.

Could they be testing it for India? I really hope VW will launch this or the UP! here. Atleast this GTD if they think GTI is too good for us

Could be Bosch R&D. They recently announced a break through in diesel emissions.

It is no coincidence that Bosch's test car of its claimed breakthrough in solving the problem of diesel NOx emissions, was a GOLF GTD too.

actually got to try an earlier version of these systems in one of Bosch's test Volkswagen Golf GTDs fitted with a portable emissions measurement system.

re: VW Golf GTD spotted in Bangalore

After launching 1.0 Polo, VW probably plan to launch a car with externally mounted engine- may be a Kriloskar diesel engine from one of the agri pumpset?
6 Years back my friend who was working for VW mentioned that Golf is under test and will be launched soon. Seeing at current progress from VW, I doubt if they would launch anything for next year or two.

Re: VW Golf GTD spotted in Bangalore

That car is being tested for the BS6 emission norms which would be in place in couple of years and also to embrace the RDE, real drive emission norms from 2023. The car is presently being tested by Bosch, the TC plate belongs to them. After the dieselgate scam of the VW, world over the RDE is becoming a norm and this is a step towards that.
The testing equipment at the rear is called as PEMS or Portable Emission Measuring System. More info here

Re: VW Golf GTD spotted in Bangalore

Just spotted a vw golf bluemotion(diesel) on the outskirts of Rohtak. This was exactly the same patch where I had earlier spotted soon-to-be-released Maruti's full sized Vitara. The Vitara and Golf are both registered under MARUTI SUZUKI INDIA LTD.. The Vitara registered under maruti makes sense, but why Golf? Maybe Maruti is testing/studying the bluemotion technology so it can upgrade its SHVS technology and make it more efficient?
(BTW if anyone's curious this section of the road is a 4 lane highway with no speed bumps and scarce traffic. I once got 29.5 kmpl on my honda city idtec on this section. So testing here for efficiencymakes sense.)
Here are some pictures I clicked while on the move, so bear with the quality

Does this mean something? Is golf making its way here or is it just click bait?

Re: VW Golf GTD spotted in Bangalore

If they launch it here, sign me up! I still cannot understand what VW's Indian strategy is.

Just launch the new Polo, Golf, Jetta etc. (they're made in India and exported anyway!) and at least recapture some market share!

Re: VW Golf GTD spotted in Bangalore

I didn't know that VW makes the MQB platform at all in India. Only the Passat is a SKD import like Skoda's Octavia, Superb and the Kodiaq.

In fact, as far as I thought, VW is not planning to establish a fully fledged MQB production line any time soon.

May be Maruti’s ‘body panel’ technology have reached to an extent where the body panels are invisible on their cars. Hence trying to do fuel efficiency improving technologies at engine level.

Maybe they are launching it via the homologation free channel (~2500 cars I think).

I saw this exact car doing rounds near the Maruti Plant in Gurgaon. Actually I have been seeing it everyday for the past few days but couldn't get hold of a picture since I was always driving when I saw it.

For folks in Gurgaon, saw this was near the Sector 23 - Palam Vihar road, if someone lives close by do keep an eye out.
