India is now among 3 Hyundai regional headquarters

Thanks to BHPian Gurudatta for bringing this to our attention.

Hyundai is making some organisational changes, which will come into effect from July 2, 2018.

As part of organizational restructuring, Hyundai has announced the creation of three regional headquarters - Hyundai Motor India, Hyundai Motor North America and Hyundai Motor Europe. The three entities will be allowed to function autonomously in their respective regions.

The regional headquarters will have various divisions for planning, finance, products and customer experience. They will work in collaboration with Hyundai Motor Company - the corporate headquarters based in Seoul, South Korea.

Hyundai Motor India lead by YK Koo will oversee the operations of the brand in the regional market. Hyundai Motor North America will have its production unit at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and 3 sales units - Hyundai Motor America, Hyundai Motor Canada and Hyundai Motor Mexico under its purview. In addition to overseeing sales operations in the region, Hyundai Motor Europe will have Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) and the Turkish manufacturing unit Hyundai Assan Otomotiv Sanayi Ve Ticaret (HAOS) under its umbrella.

Re: India is now among 3 Hyundai regional headquarters

I guess Hyundai realized importance of growing Indian market to elevate India as regional headquarter, so now can we expect some faster optimized decisions, product planning / launches quicker than before ?
Hope they will respond quickly to rapidly evolving Indian market and maruti's dominance.

While I am happy with Hyundai's products on a large scale, the dealers, service centers do not match the good products.

I hope they focus on this aspect as well.

Awesome move, not sure how much of change it will make on the ground but I have been pretty impressed with the amount of importance Hyundai gives India. No other manufacturer has shown the kind of commitment to this market, and it shows in their sales numbers. Hyundai has the potential of unseating MSIL in the long run. Along with KIA, MSIL has a tough fight ahead with the Koreans.

Re: India is now among 3 Hyundai regional headquarters

At Hyundai HQ people are identified at 3 levels for India exposure. First stage to cut their teeth in a different environment. Mid level people to hone their operational experience. And then some fast tracked people who have been identified for leadership roles in HMC, and its subsidiaries - such as DYMOS., etc, worldwide.

I visit a couple of Hyundai group companies in Korea often and "desified" Koreans in these places are increasing every year. Much relief in working Lunch menu nowadays !

Re: India is now among 3 Hyundai regional headquarters

Good for Hyundai. Good for India's automobile industry. Hyundai are showing the market and other OEMs as to how to operate and win in India's unique, demanding and price sensitive market.

Hyundai have approached the market with pragmatism and a sharp ear for the voice of the customer. Being fellow Asians they realize that our customer needs to extract every naya paisa's worth of his spend.

Some of their European rivals have assumed that the Indian market can be won with a tweaked version of their strategy in Europe and the customer here will live with a shallower standard of service. That's like an Indian company assuming that what works in Chennai will also work in Cologne.

Just goes to show how important our big & beautiful country is to Hyundai . Hyundai is the no.2 manufacturer in a market that might become the no.3 worldwide.

I think they are quick enough. In fact, some cars have been unveiled in India first, and then elsewhere in the world.

Meanwhile, Hyundai bossman says this was only natural - source + full article:

Quote:
Speaking to BusinessLine in one of the first interactions after the global announcement last week, YK Koo, MD and CEO, HMIL, said: “India is one of the biggest and most important markets for Hyundai Motor, so setting up a regional headquarters here was natural.”

It empowers us with more responsibility for long-term planning — for up to 10 years — for the local market, compared to the current three years. The main purpose is to target sustainable growth, not only in sales and service, but also in manufacturing and exports,” Koo said.

“Local people are always part of the long-term strategies because they know the market better than the Koreans,” he quipped.
