Martin Schwenk has been appointed as the new Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India. He will take charge of the India operations from November 1, 2018. Schwenk replaces Roland Folger, who will head Mercedes-Benz Thailand.



Martin Schwenk has an Engineering degree from the University of Stuttgart. He joined Daimler in 1992, through the Mercedes-Benz Training Program. Since 2015, he has been the CFO at Beijing Mercedes-Benz Sales Service Co. Ltd. (BMBS).

In the past, Schwenk has been the CFO of Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. and Mercedes-Benz G GmbH (Graz, Austria). He has also served as the Head of Finance & Controlling at Mercedes-Benz South Africa as well as at Daimler AG.

He has big shoes to fill - Roland Folger oversaw Mercedes India's best years and lots of growth. Although, of course, that was all down to external factors.

1. Our economy becoming stronger.

2. Sexy products from Germany.

Things are only going to get bigger from here.

They do yet have some of the sexiest products in the market however past few years BMW and Audi have had aging or in-competitive products. While BMW is bouncing back to some extent, Audi yet needs a refresh. Competition at this point is a bit stiffer with BMW than it was in recent years.

Here is what I think he should do to get some quick wins to maintain leadership:
1. Get the C-class facelift in ASAP
2. Offer air suspension on the E200/220 like 6GT.
3. Focus on petrol engines,they are the future and the GLC 300 is an inhouse testimony . The E350 is a flop and E200 is a slow mover, rather launch a E300 and price is close to the E220d like the GLC 300 and 220d are near identically priced.
3. Spruce up the GLC, it has been a high seller but with the XC60,X3 updated are going to make it hard to maintain the sales.
4. Stop wasting time and energy on useless CBU launches for PR mileage
