Rumour: Datsun to launch sub-4 meter compact SUV

According to a media report, Datsun is planning to launch a sub-4 meter compact SUV in India. It is expected to be priced under Rs. 10 lakh.

The upcoming SUV will be based on the Renault-Nissan CMF-A platform and will have a compact crossover styling similar to that of the Tata Nexon. It is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine derived from the 1.0-litre unit that is currently offered on the Redi-GO. A diesel engine may not be offered.

Datsun is also expected to launch facelift versions of the GO and GO+ in September 2018.

Meanwhile, Renault is working on an MPV based on a similar CMF-A+ architecture. Codenamed RBC, the new MPV is also rumoured to get a turbocharged petrol engine. It is expected to be positioned below the Lodgy and could be launched in 2019.

Re: Rumour: Datsun to launch sub-4 meter compact SUV

A sub 4m SUV with pure petrol engine should better be priced under 10 lakh. Especially when it reads a "datsun". Above pic looks literally like the "cross" sticker that we have been seeing in india (Polo, Etios etc.) and merely some extra padding on datsun Go may not sell at all !!

The new SUV will be based on the CMF-A platform (Kwid, redi-GO).

The photograph in the post above is of the Go Cross, which is part of the Nissan V platform.

So, the new SUV might look completely different than the Cross.

Rumor: Datsun Magnite could be Datsun's sub-4 meter SUV concept for the Auto Expo 2020

The document shows that Nissan has filed a trademark application for 'Datsun Magnite' name.

Datsun may be shutting shop in some other tough-to-crack markets, but in India, it plans to stay and is already charting a growth path. Auto Expo 2020 will likely stage world premiere for a new Datsun model, called the 'Datsun Magnite'. IndianAutosBlog.com has learnt that Nissan, Datsun's parent company, has filed a trademark application for this name in India, thus indicating an upcoming new model, perhaps a concept.

Datsun will scale-up its Indian operations with the help of a number of new products and one of them will be a mechanical cousin of the Renault HBC. The Renault HBC is likely to premiere in concept form at Auto Expo 2020. Datsun's version of this model could be previewed with a concept called 'Datsun Magnite' at the same event.

The Renault and Datsun sub-4 meter SUVs will be based on the CMF-A+ platform that debuted in the Renault Triber this year. Renault's model will reportedly employ a 1.0L turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine. This engine is said to be the HR10 unit that's already on offer in the fifth-gen Nissan Micra and the fifth-gen Renault Clio internationally. It's made in MPI (100 PS/160 Nm) and DI (117 PS/180 Nm) versions. It can be had with a 5-speed MT or a CVT.

Re: Rumour: Datsun to launch sub-4 meter compact SUV

Whatever they launch under Datsun brand will not sell. In Visakhapatnam, dealer ceased operations when we are seriously considering Kicks for our family. The Brand lost its credibility coupled with poor after sales support. A month ago when we visited showroom for Kicks, the salesmen were not at all enthusiastic to sell their product, and 2 weeks later the dealer ceased operations. We had Redi-Go in our family which feels better to drive compared to Kwid and Alto. Sad Nissan/Datsun lost its pace in India.

Re: Rumour: Datsun to launch sub-4 meter compact SUV

I can't believe Datsun is actually thinking of doing this. If the other products of them are something to go by, it will be another mediocre product.

High time that Nissan packed up and left india. With dealers shutting shop and protesting, the current cars doing double digits and hardly any brand presence/brand visibility I can't think of a saner solution. Would save them a lot of money too!

Cheers!

Datsun Magnite could be the Re-badged Triber. Launch likely in late 2020.

Re: Rumour: Datsun to launch sub-4 meter compact SUV

Nissan is not able to push a great product like Kicks and Datsun dreaming of a new SUV. What can I say?

Price-sensitive customer segment that Datsun wants to compete in has no aspirations for SUVs, they are happy with MUVs and spacious low cost hatchbacks. If Datsun has money, it must put it on a MUV with lots of practicality - not a wheelbase extended Datsun Go.

These companies don't know head and tail of Indian market, but they have loads of capital to waste on utterly stupid decisions.

Either that, or the Datsun Go Cross could be the Datsun Magnite in India.

I hope that they stop making Go Plus and launch a re-badged and re-specified version of the Triber instead.

Even a Go Cross resembling, full fledged sub-4m SUV/MPV would be a good seller I presume. Or make a Go Cross on the CMF-A+ platform to differentiate it from the Triber and launch it with the modularity of the Triber.

Just my 2 Cents.
