I think it is also to do with the weight penalty of batteries. Adding batteries (capable of producing a decent range) to small cars compromises packaging which affects space. Most successful hybrids have been like traditionally pretty big cars (by Indian standards.)

No doubt that manufacturers are complacent as all these factors can be overcome with smart engineering moves.

Honda to use hybrid tech to power small cars in India till EV infra is in place - will develop a more compact iMMD (intelligent multi-mode drive) for smaller cars, Next Gen. Jazz to show case this technology.

Even as Honda uses a hybrid system for mid and large-sized vehicles, it is working to make the system compact to be able to run it on small cars such as those sold in India.

So for India no Hydrogen vehicles. However, a hybrid has a lot of weight penalty due to two motive systems. Toyota has come up with a Hybrid in the top of the line Lexus. Here weight is not such a disadvantage. However, I am not convinced for small-medium cars,
