Volkswagen has launched Connect Editions of the Polo, Ameo and the Vento. The cars get Volkswagen Connect and other features and will be available to customers at no additional cost. Prices for the Polo, Ameo and Vento range from Rs. 5.55-9.39 lakh, Rs. 5.65-9.99 lakh and Rs. 8.38-14.02 lakh respectively.



Volkswagen Connect uses a data dongle that plugs into the on-board diagnostics port (OBD) of the vehicle. It allows users to access features like trip tracking, fuel cost monitor, driving behaviour monitor, location sharing, SOS call and automatic service appointment through a smartphone app. The Connect app is available on Android and iOS platforms.

The Connect Edition cars also get exterior updates which include 16-inch alloy wheels finished in grey, ORVMs with black carbon finish, glossy roof and side foil and chrome 'Connect' badges. Inside, the cars get leatherette seat covers and aluminium pedals.

Additionally, Volkswagen has made some changes to the standard Polo, Ameo and Vento as well. The cars get Moon stone coloured radio surround trim, rear USB charging port and glove box light. The Polo gets leatherette seat fabrics, while the Polo GT comes with chequered seat upholstery. The Vento comes with dual front side airbags and body coloured rear spoiler. The Highline variant also comes with 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. All cars are available in a Lapiz Blue exterior colour option.

Engine options remain unchanged. The Polo is offered with a 75 BHP 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol and an 89 BHP 1.5-litre diesel. The Ameo comes with the same 1.0-litre petrol engine as the Polo and a 109 BHP 1.5-litre diesel engine. The Vento is offered with a 104 BHP 1.6-litre petrol, 104 BHP 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 109 BHP 1.5-litre diesel engine option. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG.

The guys responsible for the naming and branding at Volkswagen must be the most busiest folks in this domain across the industry. Don't think anyone else has had to come out with so many of these 'special editions'

Good to see the addition of side airbags, that is a positive step and much needed since most of the competition have a 6 airbag variant. Should have included it in the Polo and Ameo too.

It is amazing for how long they are and kind of still managing to keep these models just about relevant in the market.

The Connect® app is compatible with both Android and iOS platforms and is available to download at the Google Play and App Store respectively.

The key highlights of the Connect App are:

1. Trip tracking: Users can track every trip made by the car when the phone is connected to the car

2. Fuel cost monitor: Users can keep a tab on their monthly or trip wise fuel costs

3. Driving behavior: The driving behavior monitor enables users to monitor their driving styles. Individual scores are given for acceleration, braking, engine speed, engine temperature etc. for every trip which enables users to improve their driving efficiency by altering their driving style

4. Location sharing: This feature enables users to share their last parking locations with their loved ones even after moving away from that location

5. SOS call: Customers now need not memorize or store the customer care or RSA number. The app can directly connect a call to the helplines from the user’s phone

6. Service appointment: The app can automatically inform the dealership when the customers car is due for service. With this intimation, the dealer workshop can contact the customer proactively and offer an appointment at a convenient time.

Highly unlikely. This is how VW India rolls. Another day. Another special edition.

There won't be any mechanical changes. Just some new badges here and there, a new paint and some tech features. It feels like the German version of our Maruti Suzuki.

Hahaha ! Aptly put.

But I respect the VW India marketing team because they are essentially selling the same single car since 8 years (Polo, Polo with small boot, Polo with big boot) and somehow managing 3,000 copies / month (Polo + Ameo + Vento combined).

That, in my opinion, is quite an accomplishment as VW Germany has hung VW India out to dry. No investments, no new products, nothing.

They might be dates, but most of the "successful" cars in the market make the Germans feel futuristic in terms of engineering and quality even in the looks department they are still ahead of most the cars, except Ameo maybe. If they were as reliable as the Japanese, I would have never bought cars from any other brand.

Another edition of the VW cars launched - The Black & White EDITION

The black and white edition will be available only across select variants and colours of Polo, Ameo & Vento. However, The Deep Black colour is available only on the Polo and Vento.

These special edition models will be available across dealerships without any additional cost.
