Look at the torque figures. clap:

That would more than make up for the slight lesser horses. Should be quicker to the ton compared to Tucson and CR-V :thumbs up

This MG line-up (MG HS, MG RX5, eMG6, MG3) has the potential to stir up the Indian car scene big time. In China, I do find their cars on roads and impressed by the overall design language and fit and finish- no cheap Chinese at all

One this sure, they will all be feature rich and expect the VFM pricing as they are looking establish a brand in India. We will see combinations of these features in India specific cars. Interesting days ahead!

The China variants:

Just asking, the Jeep Compass too has very similar Torque figures, but its not really known for being quick. Its a Turbo petrol too.

Often, there is no replacement for displacement capacity and outright power. I do not know the figures, but my guess is that the Tucson petrol might be faster than the Compass in terms of 0-100, whereas the Compass and likewise the Hector, may have quicker in-gear acceleration, so probably faster in 20-80, 40-100 kind of situations.

Saw the ZS at the Delhi airport and it was bang opposite to the Nexa display that had the S-Cross. So the ZS seemed slightly smaller than the S-Cross and to me and somehow the S-Cross seemed to have an upper hand in terms of exterior finish. Not that anything was wrong with the finish of the ZS by itself. The car looks handsome and proportionate. The cabin was well appointed and I like the fact that they skipped beige. The dash is simple and looked well laid out. And this one was an auto. Was 3am so didn't bother much about the finer details but the car looks good. So hope MG prices it well and has a dealer network that lives upto the A.S.S needs. This one is a definite Creta rival. 2019 seems to be a busy year!

I am a bit confused, they are showcasing ZS and going to launch Hector which is a re-badged baojun 530. Curious as to why this car is not offered as a MG elsewhere and only being customised for us ?

114-118 hp and 150 Nm of torque but with a 4-speed AT, as I expected. If this ZS gets launched in the Ecosport price bracket, with the dimensions and torque/power per kg figures comparable to that of Creta, I see a great potential here.

The GS could take on the Compass as well. The brand is unknown to many and the after sale support/network needs to be seen as well; hence undercutting both the Creta and the Compass might seem sensible

The MG Hector definitely needs undercut its rivals with respect to pricing for the reasons you've mentioned. In my opinion, this doesn't look like anything in particular, it doesn't look ugly but it isn't pretty either, it doesn't even seem to have a consistent design language, buyers in this segment are certainly not the type of folks who only look at mileage and price unlike some of the lower segments. I'd bet my money on this not meeting the expectations that MG has for it. In terms of design, the Chinese have some amazing looking cars, Qoros comes to mind. I hope MG really step up their design. With VW and Skoda planning to enter this segment as well, a lot of automakers vying for a larger piece of a growing pie.

MG better do a good job with the Hector. Going by the international reviews of the model on which it is based, it cannot hold a candle to Creta in terms of quality and feel, let alone the Compass. In a bid to connect to their British roots and premium image by showcasing all their international/premium models, they are setting high expectations. Hope it doesn't backfire.

I visited the MG roadshow in Phoenix Mall last week. I find the overall design language to be really mature with very high level of 'attention to details'. Quality and fit and finish are superb and are easily way better than Hyundai or a Honda and in fact in the same level as a VW or a Skoda. Cars do look premium and well made. One thing I liked is that there is certain sense of 'compactness' and nothing is excess not bulky. Overall, really impressive. Posting some of the pictures of the 4 cars (sedan was locked and could not take more pictures)

Thanks for posting these first hand images. These are China specific variants, but in China the RX5 is Roewe RX5 not MG, from the same SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) though. Do you have any image of its front or dash?

Odd!! It seems odd when a company which wants to launch its cars in India pretty soon, and are actually in the middle of opening showrooms, is displaying cars which are LHD and have the variants mentioned in Mandrin at the back. I feel that this is a wrong step at the moment when China is not “really favored” nation with our country. I do not have anything against the chinese products, but one wrong move, and our folks will go like-‘ China ka maal hai, aur kitna chalega’ :uncontrol

MG Hector petrol engine specifications revealed. 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine which produces 145hp and 250 NM of torque mated to a six speed MT or a six speed DCT.
