M G Motor's Baojun 510 SUV spied in India - This could be the SUV rivaling Hyundai's Creta.

A first set of photographs showing a left-hand-drive Baojun 510 on test suggest that MG is studying a model smaller than the Hector to take the Hyundai Creta head-on.

Baojun 510 was launched in China in 2016 and was featured as the Ecosport Rival. The SUV looks good and will be a strong addition to MG's lineup.







Interesting fact here is that, Baojun is a GM-SAIC-Wuling joint venture and MG Motors is a SAIC company.

MG Hector is now showcased as Chevrolet Captiva in Latin America. There is a very evident GM touch in the MG Motor India similar to the SAIC presence seen in GM India in its final years. ( eg : Sail Twins, Enjoy)

Rather than creating all the fuss by discontinuing Chevy and bringing in MG Motors, the SAIC-GM team could have revamped the Chevy Lineup with these China specific products. If the Baojun 510 was launched in 2016 as a Chevy model, it would have changed the fortunes of the Company. ( They had Chevy Trax and they even showcased 'Adra' concept in 2012 Auto expo).

There will be other factors included in the story which I haven't mentioned. The good vibe that MG Motors gives me is that they may eventually provide service backup for Chevrolet owners similar to Opel services done by Chevy service centers in yesteryears.

This 510 can compete with the likes of Duster, Creta, Brezza,XUV300 and Nexon while the bigger 530 (Hector) will compete with bigger XUV, Compass, Harrier and even Tucson

I have received a tip off from Someone in MG that they are scheduling the 510 Launch next year around Diwali.

They would use the Same 1.5 Turbo for its top version - Diesel might not be offered at all.

This looks really promising and with the way MG has positioned Hector - This product has the potential to play with Venue - Ecosport - Brezza - Xuv 3OO easily.

I am pretty sure.. the spotting of this vehicle is going to increase subsequently

There are unconfirmed reports that MG is prepping the Bajoun 510 as a creta/seltos rival. It's already been spotted testing in India.

If true, this would be a better match for the segment than the ZS.
