The DDiS engine, co-developed by Fiat, Opel and Suzuki, will be the country's first super compact common rail diesel engine. It has won the international engine of the year award for 2005.

The engine is already being offered with the Suzuki Swift in markets such as Poland, Hungary and the UK. It will also be the lightest diesel engine, endowing it with a high power-to-weight ratio. With a total displacement of 1,248cc, the DDiS engine puts out a peak power of 75bhp (5bhp more than the European version) at 4,000 rpm.

WOW 75BHP now i can say swift still can give competition to getz crdi (most probably 82 bhp) and punto... :).. Nice work maruti.

But please dont compare it with Logan and Fiesta in ads..

The engine is a result of a collaboration between Gm and fiat,Gm is still a stake holder in this venture is what I believe

Maruti's days as a petrol passenger car manufacturer are numbered!

yup new autocar feb issue has driven the diesel swift......check it out

Yes, even TOP GEAR drove the same and they are expecting that the car would be priced at 5.56 lakhs...

No ZXi counterpart for the diesel Swift?
Sluggish below 1500 RPM?
Only 1400 bar pressure developed by the CRDI pump (Tata's DICORs develop 1600 bars)

That's really disappointing.
I was expecting so much more.

Yeah but their 1.4 Dicor develops just 70 bhp and 140 nm of torque, both figures easily bettered by this smaller motor. Who really cares about the pressure at which the fuel is delivered as long as the engine and the car delivers?

There are actually 2 versions of this same 1.3L Multijet - the 70 Bhp "plain jane" and the 88 bhp Variable Geometry. Do I hear anyone say "88 bhp" or the normal "30 kmpl" version?!

Fiat has preferred to keep the VGT technology for themselves,The suzuki ddis does not have VGT.

With VGT, swift diesel could be more expensive than many sedans...

naaaaaaa......... Not good!!!

but still it wont have any competition and will be best in class for long time to come, tata cant match them with their dicor range.

I wonder, how Swift Diesel will fare with respect to Logan 1.5 DCI. Engine features look similar (70BHP). If priced similarly, people will most probably opt for Logan.

Where this will leave Getz Diesel? Can they get Verna diesel engine at correct price band? If not then it will be end of Getz.

Makes sense to have VGT with more power as an option... ;)

however, as the only model, i'd say no no...

Cause the price difference between petrol and diesel versions will be too much... And logan is coming too...

Any updates on how maruti has achieved an additional 5 bhp for the same ddis engine. Also any body able to explain benefits maruti is talking about 5 point injection vs three point injection of other diesel engines.

more accurate fuel metering at injection, precise control on combustion, better efficiency, lesser vibration
