re: FCA India issues emissions-related recall for the Jeep Compass

Is this similar to VW Dieselgate fiasco?
Has there been any disclosure to the loss in power(if any) post the update?

re: FCA India issues emissions-related recall for the Jeep Compass

BHPian DRIV3R had posted about the same in this thread. I seriously, seriously hope there is no power loss as that 2.0L diesel is one of the best things about the Compass.

re: FCA India issues emissions-related recall for the Jeep Compass

Diesel emissions are getting undue attention even with the present Euro IV norms and companies are fighting it out at various levels of compliance.

I for one would not be comfortable putting my money on a diesel mill henceforth, as Euro VI emission norms are further stringent. It seems what diesel mill is able to manage (in terms of emissions) in a controlled environment (basis which emission norms are specified) is something that is not possible in real life operation of the machine.

Diesel for that matter, in personal mobility, is losing out big time to alternate options. FCA will not disclose the impact on performance after this software update.

Is this the reason that Harrier using the same engine produces less power compared to Compass?

This is exactly I thought when the Harrier's power figures were made public. Going forward in April 2020, TATA may just have to add few more add-ons/filter as required by the BS VI regulations without having to undergo major changes to the 2.0 liter motor

This looks similar to the VW Diesel gate.
The only difference being Fiat being Proactive in correcting the mistake, whereas VW took all measures to hide it.

Only time will tell, if this update results in performance drop or not.

re: FCA India issues emissions-related recall for the Jeep Compass

If it has something to do with emission cheating, why only for cars manufactured between Dec 2017 and Nov 2018? They didn't cheat on the old cars? And not cheating on the current cars?

Tata has kept the higher powered 170HP multijet for the 7 seater version of Harrier. The 140HP version used in the 5 seater is a different version of the engine which Jeep also uses in its Compass in its other markets. So, no. Tata did not detune the engine because of emissions. They just plonked in a version of the engine running a lower state of tune by design.

Harrier uses a different turbo as compared to the Compass. The part details were posted by a member in the Harrier thread earlier. See here.

H7X will come in the same state of tune as the Compass.
