Government approves Rs 10,000 crore FAME II scheme

Big push to EV: Govt approves Rs 10,000 crore FAME II scheme

FAME II scheme will come into effect from 1st April 2019 for a period of three years

Quote:
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for implementation of second phase of Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles (FAME-II) in India, finance minister Arun Jaitely said on Thursday.

The FAME-II will support 10 lakh two-wheelers, 5 lakh three-wheeler, 55,000 four wheeler and 7000 buses.

In a bid to encourage advanced technologies, the benefits of the incentives will be extended only to those vehicles which are fitted with advanced battery like lithium-ion battery and other new technology battery.

To develop related infrastructure, the scheme also proposes establishment of charging infrastructure, whereby close to 2700 charging stations will be installed in metros, other million plus cities, smart cities and cities of hilly states across the country.

With this move the government intends to put at least one charging station in a grid of 3km* 3km. For highways, charging stations will be established on both sides of the roads at a stretch of 25 kms each.

Private Buyers of Electric, Hybrid Cars Unlikely To Benefit From FAME II Scheme.

Quote:
The FAME II scheme majorly focuses on incentivising electric commercial vehicles driven by Lithium-ion batteries or other high-quality tech
Quote:
In the case of four-wheelers, incentives will majorly be provided to commercial vehicles.

Re: Government approves Rs 10,000 crore FAME II scheme

Electric vehicle sales to nose dive by 50% in FY2020.

Quote:
The decline comes after the government has fixed the incentive at a uniform Rs 10,000 per kWh for all vehicles except buses under FAME-II scheme as against Rs 22,000 per kWh flat last year under FAME-I.
Quote:
the measures by government under FAME II are too ahead of time, and it will wipe out affordable segment. Only premium and niche products will sell, thus there is not much volume to be expected out.

Quote:
localisation required for four-wheelers to be eligible under FAME-II is still a big issue. “Short term there will be pressure. There will be no meaningful penetration till next 5 years
