Re: Maruti will retain 1.5L diesel, but discontinue 1.3L diesel

It will be a wise move if we buy a BS-4 Diesel just before the BS-6 norms kick in. Contrary to the common belief, the resale price of those cars won't come down so easily, as there won't be any restriction in driving BS-4 cars post that date; only the new registration won't be allowed. The lack of availability of small diesel cars and the increased price of the BS-6 models will help in high resale value of the BS-4 Diesel cars.

However, we can expect that as and when BS IV cars are phased out in the future, the useful life of the cheaper BSIV version will also be shorter. If one wants to use for 3-4 years and sell it off, the solution suggested is a good one.

Re: Maruti will retain 1.5L diesel, but discontinue 1.3L diesel

Mahindra outlays its BS VI diesel plan in its presentation:

Need to have BS6 fuel available across the country by latest January 2020.

Quote:
BS6 diesel development costs will not make all diesel engines unaffordable. Have managed to drastically control costs, but there will be a premium that will have to be passed on to the customers. The 1.5-litre diesel will still be a good value proposition
Quote:
Some more highlights:
- 95% development for BSVI has happened in house.
- #KUV100 with the 1.2 diesel will not make it to #BSVI
- Changes made to comply with #BS6 norms will add weight to the product but will be negated by the updated/new platforms

I like this person's sources..

The only way this could have been a "more" closer source would have been being the projector itself!

Re: Maruti will retain 1.5L diesel, but discontinue 1.3L diesel

I personally believe Maruti is trying to clear its stock of old diesel tech, by saying they are going to stop its diesel production. Just putting the market into as serious tension can make customers sitting on the fence to prepone their buy.

As for the sales decline I believe it was bound to happen for Maruti. Today’s market has matured enough to do comparisons and research enough to know if they get what they are paying for. Other players are providing better engines and platforms with better interiors and creature comforts than Maruti is giving to the customer. They basically have harvested "It's a Maruti, so peace of mind" mentality of people. All players that keep customer unhappy are going to pay eventually.

Re: Maruti will retain 1.5L diesel, but discontinue 1.3L diesel

Does anyone have any clear information about BS-6 fuel, specially Diesel availability nation wide?

I have tried contacting oil companies many times but expectedly they don't write back.

None of the media outlets running any such news but it's quite clear that BS-4 fuel in BS-6 engine is a strict no no.

We already see many commercial trucks & buses are already shipping with BS-6 engine so what's the actual condition of fuel availability nation wide?

Renault India will not offer diesel variants once BSVI emission norms kick in April 2020.

That will apply to Alliance partner Nissan too!

They are trying to retain the venerable K9K diesel in its higher state of tune , that is 110Ps. They are trying out with a lean NOx trap to make it meet Bharat-VI norms. The Euro version of the same K9K uses an SCR system but that is proving to be far more expensive to implement in India.

So, if the cheaper way to reduce emissions click, then the diesel will continue, else it'll be consigned to the graveyard.

Maruti Suzuki is likely to Plug Its Diesel Gap With GDI-Powered Engines ( booster-jet)

Quote:
Maruti took time as Suzuki did not have their own technology, but now with Toyota (the famed D4 engine series) being the tech 'big brother' the powerplant is available as part of the partnership in India

Re: Maruti will retain 1.5L diesel, but discontinue 1.3L diesel

If one analyzes the sales data, then somehow Suzuki vehicles anyways sell less in diesel guise compared to industry average. So, I guess it's good riddance for the MJD 1.3 for Suzuki. The GDI is a non starter in my opinion as Toyota and Suzuki have similar thought process vis a vis Diesel.

GDI is petrol. The numbers on Toyota USA models is good. With ultra light-weight maruti vehicles, it will be better and coupled with (mild) hybrid it will be more than sufficient. The BoosterJet Baleno gives close to diesel mileage.
