Rumour: Skoda Kodiaq to get 1.5L petrol engine option

According to a media report, Skoda is planning to launch a new petrol engine in the Kodiaq in 2020. The SUV might also get an RS variant.

Reports suggest that the Kodiaq petrol could be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 148 BHP and 250 Nm of torque. In international markets, this engine is available with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG gearbox with either front wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

In India, the Kodiaq is offered with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 148 BHP @ 3,500-4,000 rpm and 340 Nm of torque @ 1,750-3,000 rpm and is paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.

Rumours suggest that Skoda might also consider the Kodiaq RS for India. It could be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 237 BHP and 500 Nm of peak torque.

The 150hp diesel Kodiaq doesn't feel as quick and just does the job. A 1.5 TSI could be a tad better maybe.

If Honda can sell a 1.6 litre diesel for around 35 lakh, why cant Skoda sell a 1.5 petrol!

Re: Rumour: Skoda Kodiaq to get 1.5L petrol engine option

Skoda is totally missing the point here. If they bring the RS, they'll capture a good chunk of the premium SUV sales of the German big three.

I thought they would've understood that after the blistering success of the Octavia VRS! But hey, it's Skoda! What was I thinking!

Just bring the Kodiaq RS and stop beating around the bush.

Re: Rumour: Skoda Kodiaq to get 1.5L petrol engine option

There is most definitely a market ready & waiting for a petrol Kodiaq. However, I'm a bit surprised with the TSI's 1.5L size and was wondering why the 1.8 TSI isn't being considered? Then, I checked and saw they don't have a 1.8 TSI even in the UK (link).

Don't think the 1.5L TSI will keep BHPians happy. The diesel might remain the pick. While it's certainly not slow at all in the stock tune, a remapped 170 - 180 BHP Kodiaq 2.0 TDI will really be something else.

Why not the new WLTP-compliant 2.0 TSI 190 bhp version? Frankly 150 bhp for the existing TDI Kodiaq is nothing special, and the 82 bhp/tonne power-to-weight ratio is on par with the Fortuner, Endeavour, Tiguan & Tucson.

Bring in the 190 bhp versions of the TDI & TSI and bump up the power/weight to a class-leading 105+, and it will fly!

Skoda Kodiaq to get a 2.0L turbo petrol engine

According to a media report, Skoda is planning to introduce a turbocharged petrol engine in the Kodiaq.

Rumour: Skoda Kodiaq to get 1.5L petrol engine option-2017skodakodiaq06.jpg

Contrary to earlier reports, it is said that the Kodiaq will be offered with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This is the same engine that powers the Tiguan Allspace. It produces 187 BHP @ 4,200 rpm and 320 Nm @ 1,500-4,100 rpm.

The Kodiaq petrol is expected to be launched by the end of this year. It will be imported as a completely knocked down (CKD) unit and will be assembled locally.

Rumours suggest that Skoda might also introduce the Kodiaq RS in India. The SUV is sold in European markets and is powered by a 2.0-litre, twin-turbo diesel engine that makes 236 BHP and 500 Nm. It comes with a 7-speed DSG gearbox and all-wheel drive.

Re: Rumour: Skoda Kodiaq to get 1.5L petrol engine option

Does it mean Kodiaq is ditching diesel? I hope the 2.0-litre diesel comes back in BS6 version. Otherwise, there is nothing to differentiate with the Tiguan All space. Both the cars even look similar to some extend. Only a small number of buyers will be interested in a thirsty turbo petrol. The efficiency is going to be in the range of 5-6 kmpl in the city.

Re: Rumour: Skoda Kodiaq to get 1.5L petrol engine option

Chances of diesel coming back are even slimmer post COVID-19. Running of majority of people will get cut down and the justification for diesel will be even lesser.

Plus the 40L SUV's themselves will be a tough segment to crack in he future.

The 2.0L TSI will be the mainstay for the Kodiaq, Superb, Passat and Tiguan Allspace.

With the Karoq it makes no sense to use the 1.5L TSI in the Kodiaq as earlier speculated.

However I still feel very strongly that the Tiguan should have been 2.0L TSI shorter version at ~30L ex showroom and the Kodiaq should have been the 33-35L option.

This way there is no cross shopping between the Kodiaq and Tiguan. Right now they are essentially the same cars with different skins.

The perfect line up:

VW T-Roc - 19.99L
Skoda Karoq - 24.99L
VW Tiguan 2.0L TSI short version - 29.99L
Skoda Kodiaq Style 2.0L TSI - 32.99L
Skoda Kodiaq L&K 2.0L TSI - 34.99L

All segments are plugged now they have the Allspace and the Kodiaq in the same band with a 8-10L gap with the KAroq.

Skoda Kodiaq turbo petrol launch pushed to early 2021

According to Zac Hollis, Director - Sales and Marketing, Skoda Auto India, the launch of the Kodiaq turbo petrol has been delayed, possibly due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was initially scheduled to go on sale this year, but the launch has now been pushed to early 2021.

Rumour: Skoda Kodiaq to get 1.5L petrol engine option-2017skodakodiaq06.jpg

Kodiaq was available with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produced 148 BHP @ 3,500-4,000 rpm and 340 Nm of peak torque @ 1,750-3,000 rpm. This engine will be replaced with a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre TSI turbo petrol unit producing 187 BHP @ 4,200 rpm and 320 Nm @ 1,500-4,100 rpm. It is the same powertrain that is available in the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace and will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

The Kodiaq TSI is likely to get some updates including a digital instrument cluster and new touchscreen infotainment head-unit. The 7-seater SUV will also get a panoramic sunroof and automatic climate control among other features.

The Kodiaq TSI will be imported as a completely knocked down (CKD) unit. Skoda is also planning to introduce the Kodiaq RS in India, which is likely to come via the CBU route.

Re: Rumour: Skoda Kodiaq to get 1.5L petrol engine option

So I guess we might get the facelift Kodiaq directly next year rather than current one.

I don't expect huge numbers with the Kodiaq TSI. I think Skoda needs to get the Karoq in SKD and focus on that. That has more potential in India than Kodiaq and Octavia.

The new compact SUV can cover the sub 20L segment and the KAroq can take over 25-35L segment with 1.5L TSI and 2.0L TSI.

Well, its cousin the VW AllSpace ain't exactly setting road alight. I doubt the Kodiaq petrol will either unless its the looks and not the engine which causing the AllSpace to stumble!

I was enquiring if there are any huge year end/stock clearance discount on the Tiguan Allspace but despite them (dealer) selling just one or 2 cars every month, they are talking about 10-15k kind of discount.
Kodiaq might manage to sell few more owing to the better looks and interior.

Great if it comes in April'21 - I incidentally went to the Skoda Showroom in Bengaluru yesterday and enquired on Kodiaq. The dealer said June 2021 and Kamiq will be launched earlier in April'21.
