Rumour: Skoda Octavia RS245 to be introduced in India

According to a media report, Skoda could introduce the Octavia RS245 in India. It could be imported as a completely built unit (CBU).

Reports suggest that Skoda could leverage the new import regulations which allow carmakers to import 2,500 units per year without having to homologate the model as long as it has been homologated in the international market.

In September 2017, Skoda had launched the Octavia RS in India and it was limited to just 500 units. This time, Skoda is likely to bring the RS245, which is a more powerful version of the Octavia RS. It is powered by a 2.0-litre, turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 241 BHP @ 5,000-6,700 rpm and 370 Nm of torque @ 1,600-4,300 rpm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission.

In the international market, the Octavia RS245 comes equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension and has a performance mode. It is offered with a 9.2-inch infotainment system with navigation, ambient lighting and powered front seats with memory function for driver's seat among other features.

It might be priced at 40 lacs. Although a brilliant initiative, wouldn't it be too expensive?

They should learn from VW pricing of the GTI which was doomed from the start.

Drive on,

Who cares!? The more RSes they sell in India, the more RSes hit the pre-owned market

It's going to sell slow if it's so expensive, but this news is music to the ears!

Agree. I wish more companies would take the risk and offer us Indians true blue performance cars. The numbers will be low but they are low in all other countries.

They should take a risk (a hit on their bottomline) for a while and price it appropriately. That will show them real potential.

It has been too long that we have been shortchanged when it comes to cars (especially by the likes of Toyota and Suzuki). 80PS and 90PS is ridiculous in this day and age.

I too agree, it should be DQ250 - six speed.

It is the DQ380 that is used in the Octavia RS 245 DSG. There is plenty of room for performance upgrades, and I know this because I own the car

Quoting from the TVS Engineering site:

Quote:
DQ380 (0DE)
7-speed with wet clutch

Models: Mainly used in the golf 7 GTI China.

Production started in 2015.
Sold and produced in China, meanwhile in other parts of the world as well.
This gearbox is a smaller version of the DQ500, which can be found on the Audi RS3/TT-RS.

With the use of TVS software the DQ380 can handle up to 600hp/700Nm.

Not all 7 speed DSG'S are DQ200's. I'm sharing a picture with you which shows different type of DSG geaboxes available along with the number of gears and max torque output that each can handle.

In fact, the gearbox used in the mighty Audi S6 which produces 550nm torque is the DL501.

I read the Tiguan has DQ500. Can somebody confirm this?

IIRC it does.
7 Speed DSG, shared with the Kodiaq.

But if they launch the Octy vRS as a CBU, then it will most likely come with the DQ380 as mentioned earlier.

I don't think so. Its still cheaper and faster and more spacious than a 3 Series or a C class.

I would like to argue on some of these points - especially if we compare it to the 330i.
I am keeping the C Class out of it, because the comparable models of the C Class are geared at an entirely different segment (not performance hunters).

1) Pricing:
Globally, the F30 is on it's way out - if BMW India continues to do what they're best for, expect massive discounts on left over stock: close enough OTR to Octavia vRS 245 OTR pricing in a few states (For instance, in Maharashtra, CBU's are taxed higher). Maybe a Rs. 5L difference in OTR pricing post discounts? I'd say Tie.

2) Model Freshness: The Octavia was launched a year after the F30, so I wouldn't say it's really a fresher product either. It may have a few more features & a sportier feel, but all the essentials are there. I'd say Tie.

3) Quicker: The 330i is quicker off the line.

4) Reliability & Service: BMW with their service packages, and an engine shared across many models would be easier to live with. Skoda A.S.S. is a hit or a miss, and this particular DSG gearbox + engine are only available on the vRS.

5) Practicality: Yes, cannot argue about this at all. The Octy is that much more chuckable + spacious. However, reduced GC could be an issue.

6) Ride & Handling: The Octy will handle far better than the 330i due to the latter's soft suspension. The 330i will ride much better though. That being said, a lot of owners will probably upgrade the suspension on the BMW - it's already being done and I know a few 328i's/330i's with after market suspensions.

7) Mod potential: Both are pretty much on par. My 328i has seen the interior trim changed, brakes changed, OE M-Adaptive suspension installed, etc. In fact, BMW may have the edge here as they offer some bolt on add-ons like the M-Performance Exhaust (not a full system of course), etc.

Overall: I can see a tough battle between those who like modifying their cars picking up the 330i, and those who want a stock experience - may prefer the vRS at this price point.
The reasoning is that at least 50% of both 328/330i's & vRS's I have seen have been tuned / modified in some form or the other.
I too wanted a fun car - and had booked the vRS at Rs. 32L OTR (ended up picking a used 328i though), and if I had to buy one at Rs. 50L OTR (40L ex showroom + 20% registration & insurance) - I'd much rather buy the 330i.
