Rumour: Mahindra's 1.2L diesel to be discontinued

According to a media report, Mahindra is likely to discontinue its 1.2-litre diesel engine ahead of the BS-VI deadline of April 1, 2020.

The 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine produces 77 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 190 Nm @ 1,750-2,250 rpm. Mahindra offers this engine on the KUV100 NXT.

Diesel engines of capacity larger than 1.5-litre are expected to be upgraded to meet the stringent BS-VI emission regulations.

Earlier, Tata Motors had announced that it would axe the 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine that powers the Tiago and Tigor. Fiat has no plans to upgrade its 1.3-litre Multijet diesel to meet BS-VI norms, while Volkswagen will also discontinue the 1.5-litre diesel from its line up altogether.

Re: Rumour: Mahindra's 1.2L diesel to be discontinued

KUV 100 is not ringing the cash register for M&M, the sooner they pull the plug, the better it is. Even the TUV 300 diesel should have been removed from the lineup with the present makeover as the XUV / Marazzo engine should have found its place.

There is no point in having so much of engine inventory even in bright weather which M&M is managing in rough weather of stringent emission norms. Somehow I am never pleased with how Mahindra looks at market. A couple of days back there was news regarding removal of AMT from TUV 300.

Before that it was end of e2O !!

I doubt if they have any planning for next 5 years in place !

Agreed with the KUV100 which has completely collapsed, but not the TUV300 which is doing 1000+ units / month. While still a borderline flop, 1000+ units is enough to keep the assembly line humming & the suppliers running.

Mahindra is known to keep laggards on sale, despite embarrassingly low numbers. Case in point = Xylo (~300 cars a month). See how long they've kept the Verito & Vibe running with <200 cars a month.
