Skoda Kodiaq is seriously fast! Fastest among Endeavour, Fortuner, Gloster & the upcoming Meridian. And by quite some margin!

Skoda Kodiaq 4x4 (kerb weight ~ 1,800 kgs) powered by a 2.0L TSI petrol engine producing 190 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque accelerates from 0-100 kmph in ~7.9 seconds. It is mated to a 7 speed DSG.

Times of India and this youtuber affirm the same.

For big diesel SUVs, 0-100 acceleration doesn't really matter. What matters is the torque figures. At 350nm of torque, it is definitely going to be tricky to get this beast out of mud/sand/water.

The general thought is that fuel efficiency should not matter for those paying 40-45L for these vehicles, however the fact is petrol engines on heavy SUVs are gas guzzlers and many would feel the pinch (if they are used to a Diesel SUV) while shelling out considerably huge fuel bills both in bumper to bumper traffic and while going on long trips as a touring vehicle.

It doesn't seem practical to use petrol SUVs if they turn out to be gas guzzlers.
With Diesels disappearing from most vehicle manufacturer's portfolio one by one, the practical and efficient way forward is for all OEMs to offer (Petrol + EV) hybrids in all their offerings. Hope Jeep also offers the hybrid option for the Meridian for the Indian market on par with their international launch.

This. Wonder why is this not offered in India by more manufacturers? Petrol hybrids (proper ones like camry in smaller guise) can see super-quick adaptation by public and doesnt even warrant too much investment for charging infrastructure like EVs. More than EVs, this is what manufacturers should be offering in India if they really want to move out of Diesels.

Landmark in Mumbai has started accepting the advance booking for Jeep Meridian.

I have paid 50K fully refundable booking amount to be in the initial lot.

As per the SA, on 28th march unveiling will happen and launch in May with deliveries starting in June.

Does that mean the prices wont be out until May??

This is what seems to be the case, as per SA only hardware details would be announced on 28/29 March. Proper launch along with variant details and pricing in the month of May.

I hope the complete specs and features are announced and not just a physical reveal. Price reveal along with the specs and features will be the cherry on the top. That will be enough for prospective buyers like me to take a call if one needs to wait for the Meridian or stick to their Kodiaq booking.

Has the unveiling happened?

No. It's going to be unveiled tomorrow.

Any updates on its reveal? Any link about the Meridian's performance, driving, suspension etc reviews?

TIA.

Its only a media “reveal” scheduled for today - expect to receive information on variants, specifications etc.

The actual launch of the vehicle is expected sometime in May 2022. Its fair to assume it’ll be a while before test drives are organised and resultant reviews are out. I don’t expect pricing to be revealed today either. Reviews would likely be sometime closer to the launch date, with pricing most likely “at” the launch.

In the meantime, you could see some Brazilian reviews of the Jeep Commander, which is what the Meridian is likely to closely replicate.

Thanks. All the Brazilian reviews are about the specification and features only. It would be helpful if you could send a link to the performance review. Thanks again.

I’m not aware of specific performance reviews, off the cuff. In any event I don’t recall coming across any reviews that were in English. One just has to see the visuals and glean what one can of the car specifications.

Best to wait till the India reviews are out, I suppose.
