This is a report based on an Autocar interview that was published on 19th June. If the news is accurate, it appears that they've taken some sudden decisions. This is very disappointing news as I'd been anticipating the Renegade release for quite some time now.

Don't think Jeep/FCA ever had the plan of getting the Renegade to India. When the last 5 year plan was published, Kevin Flynn had confirmed that they are working on a sub 4 meter and a 7 seater SUV to be positioned below and above Compass respectively.

Renegade was never planned for India and lot of websites kept writing the same again and again fuelling the rumors further.

the SUV will have nothing to do with Compass. Suspension, steering gear and even platform will be different. Contrary to speculation, the model will not be the seven-seater Compass

The new 1.3 turbo engine will be used in Jeep's SUV, as well as smaller models. The four-cylinder, 16-valve thruster will feature state-of-the-art technologies like MultiAir, a feature that can electrically control valve opening.

It can be paired with the six-speed Aisin gearbox - or even the nine-speed ZF gearbox.

As for the 2.0 turbodiesel, we hope it will come in a version with over 170 hp. The Compass runs well with this engine, however, does not waste on performance, which is very close to the 2.0 flex model. A heavier car could well have a stronger diesel engine.

It is a camouflaged test mule. It is intentional padded up not to reveal the silhouette. Rest assured JEEP would not bring a MUV to rival Fortuner.

You are quite right, but the wheel base and the front overhang after the enhanced wheel base, doesn't quite look SUVish, the butch ones, I mean. Personal opinion, but unless the A pillar is a length behind the wheel arch and not merging onto it, a long(er) wheel base without a proportionate long(er) snout, will always make it seem, like, "almost an SUV"! That said, it should be a capable car anyway with their mechanicals usually very sorted! But then, if the Brezza and Creta are SUVs, so is this!

You Bet!! FCA takes the Jeep brand very seriously (not that they ignore the other brands, but Jeep has a Special place). There is no way they would mess up with any of the Jeep's DNA, be it a small SUV under 4m or a large 7-seater Barge.
And just as another BHPian mentioned above, it's still a Mule with probably a stretched Compass Tophat. There's no way someone can come to a conclusion of how the final proportions and design would be, not even the people inside the company, except for those working on the Program.

Jeep continues its testing of the 7 seat SUV,

In power-trains, Firefly 1.3 Turbo engine with 180 hp is a virtually mandatory item for the product, which should redeem some name belonging to Jeep's historical portfolio. Another propellant is 170 horsepower Multijet 2.0 diesel, both with nine gears and 4×4 traction (standard in diesel).
