Renault working on a subcompact sedan for India

After the success of Triber, Renault is working on a subcompact sedan for India.

Quote:
with potential in other markets too, Renault has finally decided to examine the feasibility of entering the sub-4 metre sedan segment.

Renault is looking to develop a car that would be India-specific, and yet have potential for exports to other regions. India-made subcompact sedans have shown much promise in Latin America, South East Asia, but most importantly in Africa.
Quote:
It is to look at a sedan that sits below 4 metres of course, but would be built on the CMF-A+ platform. This is the same platform that is used by the Renault Triber and will be seen underpinning the upcoming Renault HBC subcompact SUV as well as a like model from Datsun/Nissan. It is a derived version of the CMF-A platform that is used by the Renault Kwid and Datsun redi-GO too. Renault's learnings from the Triber development programme have given new insights on space management and driveability that will be used in not just the upcoming car, but also likely towards the further development of the Dacia branded compact products for Eastern Europe.
It is likely that Renault will look at a 2021 introduction of the said model.

Renault starts work on compact sedan. Same CMF-A platform as Kwid

The sub 4m compact sedan segment is already very crowded with decent representation from almost all manufacturers in India. We already have the Dzire, the Amaze, and also a replacement for Xcent based on the Nios grand i10 . Tata failed to get the Tigor in the game in spite of them pricing it much lower than these segment leaders. So pricing lower than competition alone may not help.

Also, Renault has seen success with the Triber since its rather unique. MUV for B segment hatchback kind of money and plus there is virtually no competition. Renault has to always try and find such niche segment rather than trying to get in to an already crowded segment.

In my view, the next segment Renault should take on is the Compact SUV. Offer a new gen Duster with all the goodies for Brezza kind of price. That will really give it an unique positioning.

True, a turbocharged petrol engine for this segment will push the cost upwards. Considering the sedan will be based on Triber, approximate cost with a TC engine option will be between Rs.8.5L to 12.0L. Renault should detune its diesel engine to meet BS-6 norms, anything like 70-75HP power and 140-170Nm torque will be ideal for compact Sedan/SUV.

The sub-4m SUV will most likely be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The sedan is additional. I guess Renault is counting on volumes from all these different body styles to drive the costs down. Triber is already a good product. An SUV / sedan off the same platform could help them further.

Renault truly has been thinking differently off-late, so hopefully, they can re-invent the sub-4m SUV/sedan formula as well.

Spot on, the options in the sub-4m sedan category are aplenty and there is no way a classical shape (say Dzire or Amaze) or even something sporty (a la Tigor) would catch the fancy of the buyers. Renault's product reception has either been a feast or a famine - they either create a segment topper (Duster and Kwid) or release something that is DOA (Lodgy and Captur), so if a conventional design is adopted, this is sure to fall in the latter.

Renault have to take that risk of bringing the looks of a crossover into a sedan body type, this formula has not worked very well in the global market - the S60 Cross Country and even the Russian Logan Stepway have received very modest responses. But Renault designers have to go down this route for the sake of differentiation.

I am sure Renault's subcompact sedan will be completely different from the Triber. Still, I GIMPed an illustration how a Triber sedan might look like.

Rumour: Renault compact sedan (LBA) to undercut Maruti Dzire

According to a media report, Renault is developing a compact sedan (codenamed: LBA) for the Indian market. It is rumoured to undercut the Maruti Dzire in terms of pricing. It could debut by the 2022 Auto Expo.

The LBA is expected to be based on the CMF-A+ platform, which also underpins the Triber. Besides the sedan, the carmaker has lined-up a Kwid-based electric vehicle (EV) called the XBA-EV.

Reports suggest that Renault is also working on an entry-level SUV (codenamed: HBC) based on the same CMF-A+ platform.

Renault scraps plan to build Kwid sedan.

the company has dropped its plan to introduce a sedan based on the Kwid internally codenamed 'LBA' and sees delays in bringing out the Kwid EV.

They should focus on getting the Turbo Triber 1.0 as soon as possible- that can even take some market away from the CSUVs (including its sibling Kiger).
