A tin can with frills is still a tin can.
And one thing I am very sure about is that YOU won't be buying any Maruti anytime soon
(A Jimny maybe, but that's in future)

Re: Maruti to develop premium and mass market variants of the same model

Now I realized that Maruti's sales pitch "Kitna deti hai?" wasn't for us.

It was for their marketing team "Kitna profit deti hai? ". How can we churn out the maximum profit from a single platform and a single engine, sell it via two sub-brands of our own, rebadge it and sell it through other competitive brands as well?

Inspite of platform sharing and selling less cars, Volkswagen and Skoda atleast have some differentiation between products and each car maintains its individuality.

Re: Maruti to develop premium and mass market variants of the same model

I think this could work well for Maruti. Just like the skodas and VWs sell the same car i think there is space for selling two variants of the same model in Arena and Nexa. Maruti is a brilliant marketer. Omni was still doing 5k shipments a month the last time i saw. And that is a 20 year old design.

But that is the same case with all manufacturers and marketing team.

Isn't Hyundai using the 1.2L engine in i10, i20 and Xcent? Isn't Tata using their old Indica platfrom from Indica to Nexon? Isn't Renault using the 1.5L engine from Micra to Duster? VW and Skoda uses the same platform / engine in different 'covers'. Will you call them cheaters?

Someone succeeds, someone fails. No point in blaming the manufacturers who succeeded.

They are not forcing you to buy their cars with the help of law / goondas. And none of the competitors here are doing charity work. If you don't like their cars, leave them and move on.

People need the uniqueness of a Mini Cooper, FE and parts / service availability of a Maruti, finish of a Hyundai, size of an Innova, ground clearance of a Defender, safety of a Volvo, luxury of a Merc, status of a BMW, style of an Audi - all at a price cheaper than Nano. Let's pray for such a car. For ever and ever and ever.

Re: Maruti to develop premium and mass market variants of the same model

A typical day at MS dealership:
Customer: I want to see swift
Executive: Sir ! This is Nexa. Would you like to see Baleno instead?

In another dealership,
Customer: I'm looking for new model of Ertiga.
Executive: We have latest, new model of Ertiga.
Customer: (After seeing the Z** variants) No the one with middle row two single seats type.
Executive: Sorry sir. That is at Nexa. This is arena.

So the confusion is going to grow more. Adding one more, sorry I can't resist,

Yet another dealer premises,
Customer: I wanted to buy Baleno, so while going by this road thought why not check cars at your place.
Executive: Ok sir. We have Baleno aka Glanza. Ditto as Baleno but of Toyota.

I fail to see three different cars here, I guess someone in Maruti is fond of after market customization, one car has Mahindra Imperio grill and other has XUV3OO grill, Toyota model looks cool though.
