Not too sure if this version of the same engine will make it to these cars. The 1.3 multijet till now came with 2 states of tune, a 75bhp one and the 90 bhp one. Swift got the former, and whether or not any of the three will get the 90 bhp one is still unknown. Grande Punto has both engines and we sincerely thus hope that Fiat will (should) plonk the 90 bhp stuff on it (mainly to differentiate its car from the others using the same engine).

However this new engine being spoken about is a 105bhp one and has been launched on the Lancia brand rather than the Fiat brand which means there is quite some time before this engine makes it to the mainstream Fiats (or others with whom Fiat is contractually bound to share its engines with)

I dont think this engine will make it to India. Fiat are gonna use the 1.3 with 75bhp for the Palio and 90bhp for the Grand Punto

Offtopic But any thread about Fiat is just turning into waste of time. I love Fiat myself but they dont love themselves, the new Palio Fiat dealer told me would be here by 15th Feb, its still not here, i have no hopes left and i dont care about Fiat anymore.

I hate bringing this up - but with the car in question being the Grande Punto, Fiat India will have to do something unique in the PR space to resell their image and credibility back to the public. Its too nice a car for Fiat India to let it down again.

This is the first car to get this lovely oil burner-The Lancia Ypsilon Sport hatchback.

would love to own this baby. This is ofcourse the Centro Stilo concept version. But the production version by Momo design looks quite the same.By the way this thread should be in the international section for the pure reason that it would probably take a decade for fiat to get this engine to India, provided they can manage to stay here for that long

I think a reasonably priced, nice performing diesel palio can still do it for FIAT... what do you guys think?

exreme_torque: do you drive a fiat?? cos most of the people hoping, wishing, fascinated by fiat are fiat owners themselves.

This could be a life saver for the Palio. Retaining 100 Bhp. Better torque and acceleration figures + better FE (exactly what customers lookout) And its a diesel now!

Quote:
The new 1.3 Multijet 16V is an extremely aggressive little engine, delivering 105 bhp at 4000 rpm and torque of 200 Nm (20.4 kgm) at 1750 rpm. Combined with a 5-speed gearbox, this will take the new Ypsilon Sport by MomoDesign to a top speed of 177 km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 10.3 seconds. These are excellent performance that make this the most powerful compact in its segment, while fuel consumption and CO2 emissions remain impressive, the hallmark of the Multijet: 4.5 l/100 km in the combined cycle and 119 g/km.

At what cost? Do you think they will be able to match the price of the Swift diesel if this engine is to be imported?

They are anyways importing the 1.6 Petrol engine which could be stopped. Seeing the price cut on import duties post budget they should be able to match the price? I am just taking a guess here.

And if Tata is interested then they could localise the engine for the Tata and Fiat range of cars.

It's hard to expect that Fiat may not bring the new 1.3 Multijet engine to India so soon as they are yet to come up with the new Palio and Punto.

Hope FIAT launches it's modified and new offerings soon, to take on the competition head on.
