Team-BHP - Maruti Udyog: Eight new models in the next three years

India’s leading automaker Maruti Udyog has said in a statement that they are planning to launch eight new cars in the next three years.
The company had earlier plans to launch just around 5 new models by 2010. Maruti is planning to impress the Indian customer by launching exciting models. The first of these is likely to be the Baleno replacement based on Suzuki SX4.
Market sources further claim that the company is working on three-box version of the Swift. This could be a possible replacement for the aging Esteem.
Manish Mathur, principal with consultant firm AT Kearney spoke about the Indian automobile market: “Many Indians prefer three box cars since it is a higher value proposition in terms of space and status”.
With Maruti Swift Diesel and the Zen Estilo already impressing the Indian customer, Maruti has a lot more to offer to us in the coming years.

Why not esteem?

afterall the heart of swift is same as that of esteem..

And here in india its still alive and selling well too !!!

Wow thats like 3 models every year... Is maruti planning to pit a car against the beemer and merc as well?
I mean where will all the models go?
OR by 'models' Maruti means 'versions/variants'?

8 models huh? Lets try to guess them:

1. M800 - Lx, Lxi, Vxi - all seperated by body stickers, power steering and colored bumpers

2. Swift ZDi - option of ABS, alloys, climate control and the "ZDi" badge.

3. Omni AC- option of roof-mounted AC compressor

4. Esteem LPG - stepney optional

5. Maruti 1 lac car - engine optional. Comes with standard "open-wheel drive" - like The Flinstones car.

6. Finally "Public ka naya transport" - Alto with old TUD5 engine and standard 4-speed. 1 yr warranty optional - standard 6 month warranty only that too on the chassis.

This is indeed good news for automobile enthusiasts, rather than pessimism, we should be optimistic about it, because, as stated in a previous thread, the manufacturers read forums. Maruti "cars" off late are taking directions which they should have taken long back. The Swift is one solid candidate so is going to be the SX4. Maruti already did the other parts of a car owning experience in terms of the service network and A.S.S Now if you think of aspiring motorsport enthusiast with not much money back-up which manufacturer do they go to? So they had everything else covered apart from the cars, which are coming slowly.

So guys we should be appreciative of this news. The other automakers should now think about what strategy are they going to take to tackle this Maruti onslaught. This is coming from someone who loves Fiat and drives a Ford.

I do hope that 8 new models actually mean 8 new models and not a sticker job here and a bumper job there...

Having said that, the possible models could include the swift sedan, new baleno, new grand vitara, SX4, Swift Sport please: and other new small cars presently in development. Maruti has woken up in the last few years, after being a lumbering giant for years.
