BS6 diesel MG Hector prices announced; price premium of 40 - 45k

The variant-wise pricing of the BS6 Hector diesel is as follows:

The 2.0-litre Fiat-sourced diesel engine continues to develop an identical 170hp and 350Nm of torque, with a 6-speed manual remaining the sole gearbox option available.

Equipment on offer remains unchanged, with the entry-level Style coming kitted out with basics such as projector headlamps, steel wheels, a height-adjustable driver seat, air conditioning with vents for the second row, a reclineable rear backrest, an audio system and remote locking. The range-topping Sharp variant packs in more tech, such as powered front seats, auto climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate and the company’s iSmart connected-car technology.

Unlike some other brands - in case of MG - the price bump is almost same across the trims (which really it should be). Still, I wonder where the extra 5K is needed for the top trims.

The real irony is, Jeep India was telling everyone that BS6 will add a premium of Rs 1.1 lakh, and priced the already-expensive Compass BS6 accordingly (related post). Now, here comes a car with the same engine & a more reasonable BS6 premium . Just goes to show how FCA keeps shooting itself in the foot.

I think this is MG absorbing some costs like Ford here. If their prices shot up by a lakh rupees they would lose customers to the Seltos/Creta.

30-40k increase happened in Sep so in a way its 40-45 + 30-40. Toyota had also pulled a fast one first by increase in price of the Fortuner then BS6 car launch with lower/similar price.

The cost of BS6 is less than 45k, and it will go even lower as time progresses (with mass production of the required parts).

Could it be the quality of parts used for the BS6 upgrade that bring this difference in costs? I know it's a HUGE difference (40k vs. 1L+) but maybe some could be attributed to the quality (while some of it is pure greed of the OEM to hike prices!)

Re: BS6 diesel MG Hector prices announced; price premium of 40 - 45k

That's indeed very good pricing by MG.
If I am not wrong, the petrol BS6 Hector now gets a motion sensor in the boot, to open it automatically. Does the BS6 diesel Hector get it too?

Vis a Vis Harrier, the top end Hector manual is still cheaper than the XZ+(single tone) manual variant of Harrier by about Rs. 1-1.5 lakh. Except the Diesel Auto, Tata has no card to play with Harrier in this segment.

Well, that and the Harriers’ handsome looks! The Hector is very unimpressive looking and apart from the heft it conveys with the boxy looks and the in-your face aspect of all that chrome plastered all over.

The Harrier, especially the new red colour with the black roof, looks out of this world- it looks as good as any modern European design like the Range Rover Evoque, Citroen C5 aircross etc. Comparing Hector with Harrier is like comparing Donald Trump to Justin Trudeau😀

Tata too did the same 40k hike in January 2020 on bs4 models and then another 30k hike during BS6 launch.
But prior to that they had ended introductory price by June 2019 and had already hiked it up by 30k. So 30+30+40 totalling upto 1 lakh in 3 stages of hikes.

Started from 12.69l and is now at 13.69 lakhs. ESP as standard is the only addition on base model apart from the bs6 engine.

The styling is obviously great with Harrier. But overall as a product I would prefer the hector. Hope they do launch a diesel automatic.

Now we know who is bluffing! Is Hector the cheapest 150HP+ car in India? Appreciate the Chinese, they for sure know how to sell, well including Corona!

If FCA does not shoot its foot, we are ought to be surprised. Since this is their norm, they excel at it.

Harrier with the power bump too did not charge as much as what is charged for the compass. MG has got it very reasonable. FCA continues the good work of driving more nails into its own coffin.

People spending 20 lakhs on a car should visit the showroom and feel the product instead of comparing the spec sheet. Harrier now offers a sunroof as well, so the only trump card of this Hector is now neutralised.

I think the voice controlled large connected Infotainment system was and still is a bigger usp for most customers than the sunroof. The powered tailgate, well laid out engine bay with ample insulation,360 camera, etc are just other addition to lure customers.
