Couldn't figure out the engines! Is it a true AMG or a AMG Line?

Apart from the A Class, the GLA has also been listed with "Bookings open". But i have to commend on the sheer pages of brochure that they have filled without actually giving any accurate information on the variants , drive trains, dimensions or price.

It would be the A35 AMG version as per the recent interviews and the photos in the brochure

There's these really bland looking alloy wheel design these days by Mercedes-Benz in India. Same for this A-Class sedan. The 5 spoke design is too plain for a car in this segment.
The same happened with the launch of CLA. The alloy design was so bad in the lower variants that it totally spoiled the luxury look.

The engine shown on the Indian page
https://www.mercedes-benz.co.in/pass...ou.module.html

is the same as the one here on the A35 page.
https://www.mercedes-amg.com/en/vehi...sedan/a35.html

It supposedly makes 306HP / 400NM and gets to 100Kmph in just 4.8 seconds.
Latest gen Mercedes Benz interiors + Sporty performance = Mouthwatering package.

Re: Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine brochure & variant details

I think this is a perfect size for a country like ours if you want something luxurious and a badge, although i would've liked an AMG kit like the C class get's, because this one looks plain boring. I am expecting the same engine choices as the CLA.

On the other hand is this going to compete with the BMW 2 series or what? At least on paper the A-class seems a lot better and i can't get over the design of the BMW.

The BMW 2 Gran Coupe looks awful. Autocar UK was as diplomatic as they could be:

Pricing for the A35 could be at 40+ range!

So will this come under the sub 4M rule and be eligible for lower taxes?
Of course this will have an Ex-showroom of >40Lakhs. Base variant.

This is not be a sub 4m car. I think they will have the A200 engine though i hope they get the A250, that will make it a brilliant package.

I am really looking forward to launch of this car, I will be looking at an upgrade next year, and if they indeed end up getting the A250 engine, it will be one of the top most contender. The interior looks brilliant too.

But yes as pointed above, the alloys design is so boring, an immediate added expense to add to the looks of the car, also not sure why but red color is missing.

Couldn't Mercedes have thought of anything but the "limousine" name? Going by its size & typical European packaging skills, it will be anything but.

Hahaha! Interesting how the A-Class takes up where the C-Class was, and the cramped C-Class has been pushed up to become a 50-lakh sedan .

That's my single-most gripe on this otherwise pretty good-looking sedan. Whoever decided to name the smallest sedan in its line-up a Limousine is indeed a genius! Wonder what they will name the face-lifted E in its LWB avatar

From an enthusiast's PoV, wonderful to see Mercedes imbibing and applying those driver oriented traits that has made BMW so popular among enthusiasts.
On a different note, I am disappointed at BMW's reactive rather than the proactive approach. Regardless of the sales report, I personally feel BMW has the capability to enjoy a bigger share.

It’s great that Mercedes, unlike BMW with the 2 series, is giving a full sized digital instrument cluster and premium materials.

Unfortunately that's the market trend these days with almost all cars. Humble Alto now costs nearly 4 lakh and top variant is more than 5 lakh which was Swift territory. Swift top model now costs almost 10 lakh which was Honda City territory. City now cost 14-15 lakh which was Civic territory. Civic now costs 22-23 lakh which was Accord territory an so on. Car prices have gone up one segment, whatever the reason may be.

This A class looks good and has expected features for the price. So it should sell well and a lucrative option specially to those who want the badge but on a budget. Having said that, pricing of these cars make Octavia and the likes even more value for money. Although pricing of the next gen Octy can go up as well. Looks like holding on to our existing cars longer makes more sense these days.
