Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

I wonder what's the point of bringing this car to India. The RAV4 is incredibly popular in NA, with reportedly high waiting times. Bringing it as CBU will definitely put it way out of it's accetable price bracket and there's not much reason to buy this at that price point.

These pictures are very clear and it's a hybrid. Interesting to see how they price it. These hybrids are very fuel efficient.

Hopefully they price it a point where the average buyers can justify their purchase and do not just end up paying for that T-badge

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

This is Toyota. We do remember Prius right, and the "clearance sale"? I don't have high hopes

But it'll be interesting to see how they price the RAV4 - T-Roc is a good precedence (on realistic pricing, not the comparing the two cars). They'll not price this close to or higher than the Fortuner is my guess.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

Thanks to the way they have priced Fortuner, there is ample room for them to place this in our market. Not sure if this will compete with the likes of Safari, Hector plus in terms of size but it can surely compete or exceed the alcazar and upcoming SUV wave.

Wake up Toyota !!

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

Ideally the RAV4 should slot right in between the Innova’s ₹30L (on-road) top-end diesel AT and Fortuner’s ₹40L (on-road) 4X2 diesel MT. But Toyota being Toyota may price it even higher than Camry’s ₹47-48L (on-road).

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

Autocar India quoted that they'll sell the car at 60 lakhs ex-showroom. Proper dead on arrival with that kind of a pricing. Why bother to go with a Toyota when you can get a Lexus for 58 lakhs?

Rav4 is in the category of Harrier, though a touch narrower than Harrier. Wheelbase is lesser than Harrier/Safari.

Thanks for the details. However knowing Toyota, Irrespective of dimensions, it will compete(mostly exceed) in terms of pricing

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

TKM doesn't really have a good history of pricing CBUs properly. They have a huge margin to play with if pricing it below the Fortuner. If anything more, they better bring the Rav4 Prime. But then again, looking at the Camry's price...

Wonder what is stopping Toyota from launching the Corolla Cross here? They said the sedan market is dead, so bring in the model that replaces it???

Even by their own admission, the Corolla Cross is for those markets that find the present gen Rav4 premium priced. Yet, no Yaris Cross or Corolla Cross. Just rumours of obscenely priced Rav4 instead

Quoting myself, the Hybrid variants are priced between 23-27 Lakh INR if the GCC selling price is converted directly.

Being a CBU, I don't think TKM can price it below 40 Lakh INR! Expect it at 50 Lakh+

If that is price range, then it will be an EPIC flop for Toyota. At that price, people will stretch and get Fortuner. Moreover, now they have option of Citroen A5 as well. But given Creta, Seltos, Harrier twins and Hector twins (possibly XUV500 soon), any mid size SUV costing more than Rs 25 Lakhs will flop. They will not be able to sell even 1000 units per month on consistent basis. They may be able to clear initial units pretty quick (may be up to 5000 units), after that it will get pretty tough for them. Even Harrier twins and Hector twins have tough time because of Creta and Seltos. See case in point Compass. It is so well engineered piece but struggle to sell because of ridiculous pricing.

Re: Toyota RAV4 coming to India as a CBU import

If I remember correctly, RAV4 was brought out in the Gulf (as a soft roader) in competition with Honda CRV, and is priced competitively there.

CRV retails between 28/30Lhere, anything beyond this will be DOA for the Toyota.
