Rumour: Maruti to shift Gurgaon plant to new site in Haryana

Maruti Suzuki has decided to shift its manufacturing unit from Gurgaon to a new location in the state of Haryana.

Rumour: Maruti to shift Gurgaon plant to new site in Haryana-maruti_ed.jpg

Maruti Suzuki has been offered land parcels in Manesar, Sohna and Kharkhoda in Sonipat. The company is evaluating its options but has no plans to move the factory out of Haryana.

Maruti's Gurgaon plant is located on the Old Delhi-Gurgaon road. The 39-year old facility is spread over 300 acres and has an annual capacity of around 7 lakh units. The area is now getting crowded with too many residential buildings being built in the vicinity. The movement of heavy vehicles is also causing congestion in the city. Therefore, the carmaker is seeking a new site in the range of 700-1,000 acres.

Out of the three land parcels offered by the state government, the 1,300 acre plot at Sohna was found to be unsuitable due to high water levels at the site. While Kharkhoda has enough land available, the 600 acre Manesar plot would be ideal as it is located in one of the largest automobile hubs in India with numerous ancillaries already present. Maruti already has a plant in Manesar since 2007.

This will be a good news for residents of that area if MSIL decides to move from this facility.

Man this road goes crazy during the morning and evening shift timings alongwith the truck movement for vehicle dispatches. Have had first hand experience to be stuck in the morning time jam while going towards kapashera using old delhi-gurgaon road for some work.

Wonder what will maruti use this facility for after moving out.

Maruti may have gotten Gurgaon land a long time ago at a very discounted price. Today, land prices in Gurgaon are sky high. That real estate is going to bring a LOT of cash for msil for sure. With that much cash they can buy any land in Haryana and still have a lot to spare. A win-win for Maruti.

Maruti Suzuki plans to shift its manufacturing base from Gurgaon to Sonipat in Haryana. The new facility will be the brand's largest in India.

According to R C Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki, construction of the Sonipat unit will begin soon. The first assembly line is expected to be commissioned within three years.

Maruti Suzuki is investing Rs. 18,000 crore in the Sonipat unit. At present, there are 3 assembly lines each operational at the Gurgaon and Manesar facilities with a combined production capacity of 1.5 million units. However, there is no space for further expansion. A fourth assembly line could be installed at Sonipat to expand capacity to about a million units.

The area around the Gurgaon factory is now getting crowded with too many residential buildings being built in the vicinity. It hampers the movement of heavy vehicles causing congestion in the city. This has prompted the company to move out of the heavily urbanized area.

Re: Rumour: Maruti to shift Gurgaon plant to new site in Haryana

So much success and profitability for Suzuki in India, yet it gives it a step motherly treatment compared to other countries where they barely sell 1/5th the volume that they do in India or even in-fact might possibly go bankrupt in. Either way, why should they give India importance? After all, sub standard built quality and refusing to bring lustful cars like the Jimny, Vitara or the Swift Sport in India has become like a dastardly norm for Maruti Suzuki here in India, simply cause: “Why fix something thats not broken?”. Surely that should
be their new moto.

The mass market in India cares about “Kitna Deti hai? and nothing more. Maruti knows that and have slyly given India that and ONLY that. They got their pockets fatted and they will stay this way until people like you and me don’t wake up and raise our voice. Hopefully at least once the Indian Govt starts giving passenger car safety prime importance, only then will Maruti Suzuki change in our country. (forcefully at best rather than willingly)

PS: This post comes from the crestfallen heart of an Ex Maruti Suzuki loyalist within me.
