1,200 workers at Toyota's Bidadi plant have gone on strike from November 9, 2020.

Toyota has stated in an internal circular to its dealers and suppliers that workers had gone on a 'sit in strike' opposing the disciplinary action taken against the union office bearers who had allegedly threatened and abused a manager of the company.

The company has termed this as an illegal strike and has declared a lockout with effect from November 10, 2020 till further notice. It is in talks with the relevant stakeholders to try and resolve the issue.

Further, Toyota has clarified in a statement that the person put under suspension is pending enquiry as per company rules and applicable laws.

Re: 1,200 workers go on strike at Toyota's Bidadi plant

This is the sad state of most industries in India.

First, people want employment. Once they get employment, they begin flexing their muscles. Then, if they can't have their way, they resort to strikes, disrupting the very source that gives them their livelihood.

I do agree that there is high handedness in some quarters higher up the command in any company, but this kind of attitude by workers is just condemnable.

Let us hope Toyota solves this without back-bending.

This might be the reason for Toyota not opening official bookings for the facelifted Innova even after dealers have been informed and are taking bookings unofficially.

They might as well go on a strike at that bad translation of the "centralized kitchen", people should stop using google translate for localization.

Some folks here might feel that unions are at fault here, but not every corporate environment is transparent and employee friendly, the same way people might think employees are resorting to old methods, it might be the same case with supervisors who think they have special powers over them.

This could possibly delay the launch of Crysta facelift, currently slated for this month.

Toyota told to open factory at the earliest by Karnataka Government

Quote:
The Karnataka government on Tuesday decided to ban the ongoing workers' strike at Toyota Kirloskar Motor factory in Bidadi.*It also decided to ban the lockout declared by the management and told them to lift it immediately.

However, a government order banning the strike under Section 10(3) of the Industrial Disputes Act will be issued tomorrow, the sources said. The government's ban order will come only after the Labour Commissioner sends a report based on the conciliation meetings with the workers union and the management, the sources told DH.
