Re: 37 days & counting - 3500 workers have been protesting at the Toyota's Bidadi factory

I have seen TKML up close, I mean as close as you can
Toyota's work load on employees is very relaxed, ergonomics is as good as it can be in a factory. Compensation and facilities that is as good as any other company. So guys, don't worry about the workers here. Its plain, laziness, greed and political interference.

In comparison I have seen near-retirement big bellied unionized employees in two wheeler industry work much harder than these 35-40yr old folks.

A quick google search and you can see that there have been worker strike at Tata Motors, Mahindra as well as Ashok Leyland. This is not limited to Japanese plants only.

I thought Toyota followed a takt time concept where primarily the pull of the demand set the pace of production. With no apparent spike in customer demand for products rolled out of this plant, I wonder what was the rationale for increasing the load on the worker (which brings to mind this )

The issues could be with one shift supervisor or manager and escalated into a strike. Not everything needs to be the result of upper management directives.

As for Wistron - https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/appl...akamai-rum=off

Its something that I have seen first hand. Having worked in the management position in manufacturing at one point in my life, I can say one thing for certain, that like always, and like everywhere else, the workers will never win. The union leaders will be paid off extremely well, just like in a corporate structure, and the workers will get something superficial, which will be nothing but a feel good factor. There will never be any good financial gains to the workers.

"Competition is good for everyone" -- This term in reality is a double edged sword. This is the only reason why a worker is made to work like a robot. Because if he doesnt do that, the company loses. And no way will the owner/management of the company is gonna let that happen. Someone has to bear the pain (physical), especially in manufacturing, ultimately its the worker.

Competiton also kills morality, and puts everyone on survial mode. Theres no reason to blame Toyota in this, its just trying to be more efficient company. But it comes at a cost. The workers pay for it by being overburdened by work. Take a loo break, when the time comes and not when its time to go. Get penalized for being slow. Sometimes even salaries being cut.

Re: 37 days & counting - 3500 workers have been protesting at the Toyota's Bidadi factory

By law no manufacturer (especially overseas players here) in India can violate industries act. And as far as i've heard form my friends who are working with vendors for TKML, the work life is good and the pay is relatively high compared to competition and employees are taken care pretty well. Everything is very disciplined in the typical Japanese way

My close relative works in Hyundai assembly line says the mantra is "the line should not be stopped what so ever" even if its a broken part, fix it and then at the end of line recover the car and replace in the repair area. This applies even if there's part shortage, i've heard him say they have even built cars without one or more seats, and will fit them in the repair area later. Line speed is also quite fast.

Going my whats happening, this should either be a political push through union or the employees have been cozy all these days with the work speed and now owing to the demand, they are asked to increase the momentum which no one wants to do.

Not related to the topic being discussed, but are there any impacts to the quality of the car produced during the time such a strike is happening? I ask because the Innova is one of the short lists for me at this time and I am wondering if its a good idea to pick up a Nov/Dec manufactured vehicle?

Brand Toyota will back all products produced at anytime. This man to man variation (between normal trained workers & stop-gap workforce to tide over issues) will not make worse cars, only the rate of production would be lower.

QC norms are for the Toyota vehicle, not who made it.
