After my brief testdrive yesterday, I was pretty disappointed to see the basic nature and inflated price tag of the Logan Linky to brief drive.

For the sake of an even comparison, the on-road prices of Mumbai via individual registration have been listed here.

Base Petrol (Power steering versions):

Mahindra - Renault Logan : 551,521 (For the 1.4)
Maruti Esteem : 518,532
Ford Ikon Flair : 561,325
Tata Indigo : 523,161

Fully-loaded petrol:

Mahindra - Renault Logan : 663,088
Maruti Esteem : 594,351
Ford Ikon : 605,525
Tata Indigo GLX / SX : 562,180 / 651,332

Base Diesel:

Mahindra - Renault Logan : 639,124
Tata Indigo : 566,043.

Fully-loaded Diesel:

Mahindra - Renault Logan : 750,512
Tata Indigo : 611,429 (For the mid-equipped diesel which has power-everything). The fully-loaded SX is for 692,674.

Butttttttttttttttttttttt the Esteem, Flair and Indigo all enjoy discounts of anywhere between 20,000 - 40,000. This gives them a further advantage.

Also butttttttttttttttttt the Fiesta diesel starts at 817,149. And the Verna diesel starts at 868,767. Instead of 7.5 for the fully-loaded Logan, I would much rather prefer a Fiesta for 30,000 more (after discounts).

Precisely. Looks like Logan falls in no man's land wrt its pricing. Cheapest car in Europe is not cheap in India after all.

Totally agree, when I spotted the Logan few months back in lonawala, I found it very poor looks & aesthetic wise, people told me that Logan's trump card would be its pricing & not looks. It seems it has got neither.

With the way this poll is going, Looks like 100% people will say that it is overpriced.

Well i was just thinking about the pricing factor of Logan and what if we never knew that Renault makes Cheap Cars (with respect to prices). Would we have accepted Renault for what it is now if we never knew about it ?

Another damp squid, expected M&M to do better than this, given the great success the Scorpio enjoyed....... No Show > No Go >>>>

the petrol Logan hasnt got a chance at the market share with the much-beloved Esteem taking the big chunk of the pie. the Flair aint bad either.
the diesel Logan may seem to be cheaper than the Fiesta and Verna but just doesnt provide that kind of value. the Fiesta and Verna seem to be a class apart from the Logan which doesnt have the looks or the aesthetics of a 7L+ car.
and as t-bhp member ~GeekSrik reviewed, there is too much of cost-cutting in each respect that the Logan seems too expensive for what it offers.

I'd rather go in for a Fiesta or Verna.

PS: how can anyone like the looks of the Logan. it seems to be the bigger French sis of the Peugeot launched a decade ago. same boxiness and total lack of design.

I will do a test drive soon and vote here.
But according to some others, it is not worth the money. Some better options are there in the market.

I dont know whether all Renault cars are cheap But from what we know Logan was esigned for third world countries with pricing in mind.

Also if we completly ignore any awareness about the Logan, The price its sporting puts it in a bracket where the competition scores in almost every department.

Completly agree, that what I had said when I first spotted Logan i.e. how can anyone like the looks :p

But on a serious note looks are highly subjective & as they say, to each his own :)

One can probably get the Indigo XL for slightly more than the Logan. And that would comprehensibly counter the space advantage of the Logan, if any.

Way overpriced without doubt.

The day I heard about Logan , I heard it with an adjective "Cheap". It is not at all a cheap as far as pricing goes no matter how good engine/package is

I was having am image of Logan as being a "Cheap" car... Looking at the prices, specially high end Diesel, we would get TATA Indigo LWB with much luxuries items for just about a difference..

After taking a look at the ad campaign... where M&M and Renault are branding Logan as a luxurious car, gave me an indication that the Logan won't be cheap as it was expected to be.....

But as usual, the Indian car market is unpredictable, anything can happen, the Logan might still become a runaway success... let's wait and see...

Slightly, off-topic

India is NO LONGER a third world country.... Let the term be used by the Westerners themselves..

Its been a much touted but extremely disappointing launch to say the least. Pricing is totally awry.

Lookswise, I find it better than the Verna (sorry, no offense to the owners but I don't like the boiled egg side view of the front of the car); but that's about it

All in all Tata must be happy and relaxed with the Logan prices
