Re: In a first, Toyota to partner with multi-brand workshops to service Toyota cars

Out of warranty vehicles could move to the TServ workshops for regular maintenance. If they could provide qualified technicians and a quicker turn around time.

This could very well be a sign of more badge engineered models coming from the MSIL-Toyota partneship

They'd want to ensure that buyers of their Badge engineered vehicles are also kept happy. More touch points for Toyota cars, and customers get cheaper OEM "supported" services at FNGs especially is lower tier cities.

Three cheers to Toyota!

I hope Zac Hollis from Skoda is watching this thread and gets inspired to team up with local multi-brands in select cities. It's one way they can address the shortage of service centres faced by car owners in Tier 2 and 3 cities.

Re: In a first, Toyota to partner with multi-brand workshops to service Toyota cars

This is a good move. I think one factor behind this could be accumulating Toyota cars in the market, but stagnant number of Toyota dealers to service them. This is just my initial observation, but service levels at my dealership are beginning to drop and I think its due to the volume of cars that are coming in for service.

I would guess, a Toyota dealer would much rather want to focus on serving the relatively newer Crysta customer than a person like me bringing his 10 year old Etios justfor regular service.

Taxi owners and users like them were known to get their cars serviced from outside. I think this move is aimed at people like me- still driving around their 10 year old Innovas and Etios. We have been offered a new channel. We get the parts and some degree of Toyota service, while dealers benefit through decongestion, focussing on newer owners and keeping the customer service intact.

I guess they are trying to bring structure to the FNG pool and stand-up repairs done at such locations. Curious to know if there is look and feel change for the workshop or just a certificate on the wall claiming the affiliation.

Not really. It's the cheaper maintenance & repair at outside workshops.
I too was under same impression until I got my Kwid serviced at a multi brand workshop. Authorised service center quoted price was 5-5.5k where as in unauthorized workshop I ended up paying 4.5k. Many of popular, larger unauthorized guys do charge GST, especially if you are paying by card. Labour is the only aspect that is cheaper. May be for bigger repairs, unauthorized is significantly cheaper, but for regular service, better to stick to Authorized/dealership service center.

Re: In a first, Toyota to partner with multi-brand workshops to service Toyota cars

I see that Pride cars which is present in RR nagar, Bangalore is now under T-Serv. The technician Harish has shared the images on his WhatsApp. I have been servicing my Punto there for quite a while now. I believe Toyota did their research before choosing the FNGs, as Pride cars is well known for their service.
Need to see if this changes anything for me, Punto is due for service in May.
