Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, has stated that the company plans to launch seven AMG models in India this year. Some of these will be manufactured locally at Mercedes' Chakan facility.



The AMG GLC 43 Coupe was the first AMG model to be assembled in India. The recently launched AMG A 35 sedan is also assembled locally.

Other AMG models that Mercedes currently offers in India include the G 63, GLE 53 Coupe, C 63 Coupe, AMG GT and AMG GT 4-Door in India. These cars are imported as completely built units (CBUs).

In the first quarter alone, Mercedes has launched two new models in India - E Class facelift and A Class Limousine. Later this year, the carmaker plans to introduce the next-generation GLA crossover and C Class.

Hopefully, even the prices are more conducive to the Indian environment for the models that are going to be built in Chakan. Pricing and the actual cost of the car aside, I think the real behemoth is the ownership (post-sales) cost of any Mercedes car. Owning a normal Mercedes is already expensive enough for me, I don't even want to imagine the annual ownership costs of AMG versions!

In this case, Mercedes should follow a similar strategy to the VW 2.0 India model where VW are aiming at reducing ownership costs (in terms of service costs) by 12-15%. Even such seemingly small savings are much appreciated and go a long way! Loving the Mercedes India strategy so far and can't wait to see what all they have in store for us!

I don’t have a breakup on AMG sales but from some privy information, G- Wagon is what brings the highest numbers for them.

Will be interesting to see if they can do a CKD for this iconic variant and bring prices to more reasonable levels.

Though not a potential customer, still visited the global site to know which all models had AMG offerings. It was like a child visiting a Candy shop. I say, bring them all. Even if one cant buy them, let us at least see them and hear those beautiful exhaust notes !

Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 4Matic to be launched at the end of April 2021



Locally assembled version will come at an expected price of Rs 60 lakh. Will get 306hp, an AMG-tuned suspension, and a four-wheel-drive system

The GLA 35 4Matic will become the third locally assembled AMG, after the A35 Limo and the GLC 43 Coupe.

Seems like the GLE couple .Might be with the 6 cylinder(43/53) though and not the 8 cylinder(63).

But the GLE 53 is already on sale here. It most probably is the V8.

You are right . They went for the full blown AMG with the V8.
