Perfect observation, but in the end their SUVs score good safety ratings which is the end result and appeals to the markets.

Mahindra XUV700 flush door handle design patent leaked

Quote:

When the key fob is operated, the partial section of the handle comes out of the door, so that the user can pull it to open the door.

The patent further reveals that a simple and secured concealed door handle mechanism alleviates the problem associated with conventional door handles that have complex mechanisms and are not easily operable under various different circumstances. The company highlights four key benefits associated with flush door handles –

- Simple in construction

- Easily operable under different circumstances

- Safe for the user

- Equipped with a handle with a profile which avoids hooking of the finger rings

I am very skeptical of this type of innovations. They achieve very little but when they fail the consequences are huge. Question they should ask is, will this really make big difference to the users? Do they really care? Since it is not a tried and tested mechanism, what are the risks and are they worth taking?

I would focus on things which matter in this category of vehicle. Things like flush door handles may matter in luxury cars where the products from the competitors are evenly matched and even little things can contribute to the differentiation.

Now it may be too late to rant about it but hope that they have tested this thoroughly and made sure that it works 100% of the time.

If they are using a mechanical retract like we have in the bootlid of VW Polo, where you push the logo at one end using the thumb, then pull it to open the door/lid using the fingers, then it's fine.

If they are using a motorized system for the retract of these flush sitting door handles. Then I want to know about the backup system available in case of battery drainage. If the battery is drained, the motorized system will simply lock the occupants out of the car, and how will one access the bonnet then, in case they want to jump start?

Mechanical systems are not provided along with electronics for giving "2 in one solution", they are simply there to be used as a backup.

I went through all patent images, but unable to understand if this is having a mechanical push type retract or it's an "only electronics" assisted system!

XUV700 spotted near Mahindra dealer in TN.

Boot space doesn’t look much since 3rd headrests will almost be touching the boot glass.

Having it 'electronic only' without a 'mechanical' fall-back system is foolish, especially for something basic but very important part like a door handle. I was surprised to know that in some of the modern cars, you can't open the boot lid if the battery in the remote is drained. They don't seem to have another way to open it.

Please find the complete patent documents (specification (which describes the invention (i.e., the door handle) and references the figures (also attached here)) attached along with this post.

There are 2 patents related to the door handle: 201941031744 (AN ELECTRICALLY OPERATED CONCEALED DOOR HANDLE MECHANISM) and 201941031745 (A MECHANICALLY OPERATED CONCEALED DOOR HANDLE MECHANISM). They seem to have filed patents for both mechanical and electrically operated concealed door handles.

The documents are attached here for your reading pleasure (if you have the time).

Note: These documents have been downloaded from the Indian Patent Office website, where the documents related to the Mahindra patent door handle are available to the public.

Q2 of financial year 22 means in July to Sep 2022, which is more than 1 year away. Can anyone clarify my doubts:
1. All the test mules spotted are of new XUV 500 or XUV 700?
2. What will happen to XUV500? Anyways M&M will have to update XUV 500 as no one will will retain a decade old product (except for VW, of course). When will the new XUV 500 come? As many reports were available earlier that new XUV 500 will come in 2020, which got pushed to 2021.
3. If XUV 700 is coming after 1 year, why did M&M start rolling out various videos related to it already?
4. Is XUV500 a 5 seater and XUV 700 a 7 seater?

I am completely confused here

I can't understand what Mahindra is doing, XUV 500 has a good brand image with a strong recall value. Renaming of W601 as XUV 700 doesn't make any sense, why not to go with a brand name which has a strong recall value rather then renaming it? It adds to the confusion only. Most of the established car models still has their name intact with new generations for example Skoda superb is always Skoda Superb, doesn't matter what generation it is!

Mod Note : Please capitalize where required. Please do not type with dots ......... like this and request you to factor in punctuation mark space while putting a punctuation.
Thanks.

Agree that the boot space isn't much. I bet it may be only better than Safari, which is meagre as compared to expectations.

Am too confused and have the same question when i read news about Seltos 7 seater today. I have been waiting for these releases (Alcazar Vs Scorpio Vs XUV500) to finalize my choice but now confused. Are we going to get upgraded XUV500 or not?
