Mahindra has announced the name of its upcoming SUV. The new model which will be based on the W601 platform has been christened XUV700 (pronounced as XUV 7 double 'Oh').

According to Mahindra, the XUV700 will be offered with petrol and diesel engine options. Customers will get to choose between manual or automatic transmissions. It will also have all-wheel drive capabilities and will come equipped with advanced safety features.

The XUV700 will be launched in the Indian market in Q2 FY2022. It will be positioned between the XUV500 and the Alturas G4 in Mahindra's line-up.

The new SUV will be manufactured at the company's Chakan plant near Pune.

As far as I can recollect, W601 is the new generation XUV5OO.

XUV7OO might be replacement of the Alturas G4, since they are to sell the stockholding in SYMC and there are no plans to bring the 2021 Rexton.

Really hoping here that Mahindra doesn't go all out on premium pricing too. Atleast the mid variants should be under 21 lacs on road, we haven't seen alot of high sales numbers with suvs in the 22-30 lacs on road price bracket.

Mahindra seems to be on an "improvement" run.

They made acquisitions in various firms which would help them improve various aspects of their interiors, exterior looks, fit/finish etc.

I feel the success of the XUV700, (which does seem to have a good product placement) will depend on the success of the XUV500. The XUV500 seems to have a feature rich offer, but it has to be backed up by a "well-made/well-built" product.

The market is changing, buyers are moving towards more quality of interiors and interior finish. TATA and M&M used to be the laggards in this area, they are making great strides now.

First 500, then 300 and now 700. What's next? An M8 coming from Mahindra's stable?

Does this mean the XUV500 will continue to exist? Either as current passenger car with improved interior etc, or say to the mass mobility market (taxi etc) as "TOUR" product?

But then, if XUV700 is nothing but W601, then it is the second gen XUV500 which is slated to launch in Q3'21 right, as per recent reports coming in.

Yes, absolutely XUV500 will/should continue to exist. They have put in so much till date that it will be a business harakiri to pull it out.

And going by the rumors about the Alturas G4 to be discontinued (Team-BHP article), Mahindra will need a higher podium to carry on with their SUV strike zone strategy, as proclaimed by their new boss Anish Shah.

Got a DM from overdrive's Rohit's, saying more or less the same, of Mahindra stepping up the game

Looks like XUV700 is the rumored next gen XUV500. That would mean XUV500 will continue in the lineup. But does the current gen XUV500 have enough to carry on? As per the latest sales report, it is barely selling 600 pieces. It has taken a beating from Safari and Hector+. I don't think it is even in the consideration set of people shopping in this segment. They need some differentiation if it is going to continue. May be bring back the AWD AT variant and advertise the hell out it, branding it as the only true SUV in the segment.

On another note, the name reveal video specifically mention crash tests. Looks like XUV700 is coming with a safety rating from launch itself.

Just pray that Mahindra named the next gen XUV500 as the XUV700, for the simple reason they wanted to continue with odd numbers. :disappointed

So instead of naming the Creta rival as the XUV400, they could name it as the XUV500.

Please don't it be that they are going to sell the current XUV500 and the XUV700 together.:Frustrati

As of now, most things are just speculations I think.

My wish would be -
- Continue with current XUV5OO at a much cheaper price tag with few touch-ups like put back AWD, newer Petrol engine and Diesel Engine.
- Launch XUV7OO at the price point that puts Safari/ Hector Plus marginally below and with everything that we have seen so far in W601 test mules.

That way, they can continue to have two cars to address a wide spectrum of customers. The only challenge would be, the top end of XUV5OO and lower end of XUV7OO would be hugely overlapping on each other thereby creating good amount of confusion among the prospective buyers.

It very normal that a person considers next car to be an "upgrade" - not just same car with new generation features (there are fanboys anyway, but we aren't talking about them.) So it may be a good emotional appeal to the existing first variant owners from 2011 to go for so-called "upgrade" to XUV7OO. In the last decade or so, their pay-checks must have improved to definitely but XUV7OO and still not feel like having same badged car.. its like playing the trick wit people mentalities.

Anyway, like I said, everything is speculation until the real launch - and till then, there will be more test mules on the road than the ones available for sale in showroom ;)

I think you guys are missing another possibility. The XUV7OO is probably a proper 7 seater with full time 3rd row seating based on the new XUV5OO or W601 platform. The XUV5OO is a part time 7 seater at best with almost non-existent boot space when the 3rd row is up.

The XUV7OO could offer 7 seats + premium features at a higher price point. The 5OO and 7OO could be like the Harrier/Safari duo from TATA.

Just my 2 paise.

There seems to be some confusion. The XUV700 is said to be launching in 2022, whereas the 2nd gen XUV500 is said to be releasing this year. This seems to be an all new car then, doesn't it?
