Rumour: Kia Seltos to get iMT option & new Turbo MT variant

According to a media report, Kia is likely to introduce the clutchless Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) in the Seltos.

The report states that the 6-speed iMT will be available in HTK+ trim onwards. It will come paired with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 114 BHP and 144 Nm.

Kia is also said to introduce a GTX (O) Turbo MT variant. This will be the new top-spec Turbo MT variant and will come with a panoramic sunroof. It will be positioned above the GTX+ trim and will be powered by the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine. This engine makes 138 BHP and 242 Nm.

Kia is gearing up to introduce the updated Seltos on April 27, 2021. In addition to the aforementioned updates, Kia will launch the Seltos Gravity Edition which will come with a slew of cosmetic changes and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Re: Rumour: Kia Seltos to get iMT option & new Turbo MT variant

When did this car go on sale first? Sep 2019? For a ~20 month old car, this seems like a good refresh. I am not sure what others in the forum with access to objective data on mid-life refreshes think.
From a production stand point, they are going to have more variants. Even for a simple cosmetic thing like sunroof, they will be having 3 variants - none, single pane and dual pane. I am not sure if this is ideal. Perhaps they are testing the waters about the price elasticity and will rationalize to a single dual pane sunroof by the end of the year once they run out of existing stock. May be the IVT could go away as well. Or, they're planning to go the Subaru route in US - no negotiations at the dealer as almost every car is custom made with different transmission, sunroof etc. options

And to think that their variant list was confusing and complicated to begin with!

But anyhow, I think one good aspect of this is is that they have an option for every customer. The panoramic sun-roof will be essential to stave off the competition. Personally I would love to see an AWD make it's appearance somewhere in the lineup.

Drive on,
Shibu.

Is Kia introducing GTX+ MT variant in Diesel as well? If they introduce this variant in Diesel, this will have many takers and many people will prefer buying this variant over the HTX+, which is the present top-end version in Diesel as of now.

And, got to know from the Seltos owners group that the Kia is adding features of HTX in HTK+ it seems.

Instead of this imt madness, I would have liked if they introduced the TC/CVT Automatic (in diesel and petrol respectively) in the base HTE variant, at a justifiable premium, of course.

All these reports make me wonder where were the test mules and how come none have been spotted so far? Especially when they are talking of a new transmission option being launched?

Well, more Power to Hyundai-KIA. Sun is shining down on them brighter than ever and their cash cow hasn't weaned off the hormone that drives the average Indian Joe/Jane to buy their cars. Perceived beauty that's skin deep. The aptly termed 'Gravity Edition' is self-imposed sarcasm at it's finest. Upon having driven a new Seltos GT-Line vehicle equipped with 17" wheels, I thought to myself then that ride comfort and bump dampening characteristic was just abysmal with wheel kickback and lateral tossing about aplenty. This edition is advertised to be factory fitted with 18s'! That would further narrow down aspect ratio to a palltry 45 section, would be my guess. Kind of defeats the purpose of an "SUV", if you ask me. Neither here nor there car then, as one for a sporty handling car wouldn't have this as first choice. So you'd feel dragged down with greater force of gravity to sense every rut and undulation of varying topography through the spine, I see. Perfect nomenclature, lap it up at tremendous markups lads and laddies.

I was evaluating Sonet vs Venue as my next car and did a lot of research on the transmissions. After the test drives, the only question i had was why doesnt every car have the IMT option (atleast hyundai creta and kia seltos since they have it in lower category cars). It is so so convenient while being light on pocket.
The major reason i was considering Sonet/Venue was that i could get an automatic under 15L while I would have to compromise with a manual transmission in Creta/Seltos/Hector to stick to the budget. Since IMT is very close in pricing to the manual, a lot of people could get best of both worlds.

Perhaps in the near future, iMT has the potential to become the norm in manual transmissions, just like power steering (sorry if i offended the purists)

Hi, Has anyone been able to get their hands on a Seltos IMT (purchase or test drive)? What is the initial impression?
