Re: Common irritants while driving a car!

What I dislike:

[1] Vehicles just behind with their high beams on, when they know that they won't be able to pass ahead immediately.

[2] Highway vehicles that come in our fast lane in the opposite direction.

[3] People who are in for just one trip, but adjust the music player settings (excluding the volume) to their taste.

[4] Co-passengers who "give feedback" to other road users who they think are not adhering to rules or not being courteous.

Re: Common irritants while driving a car!

The only irritant for me is a fly. I get fussy until I shoo them away.

I hate it when service center folks and valets mess up the driver seat position. It takes a few attempts to reset it to my convenience and the driving experience feels spoilt until then.

Cabs, Autos and bikes inching forward at traffic lights only to go 40kmph at max and of course, drivers who take it upon themselves to prove their superiority over a faster car everytime they see one.

Re: Common irritants while driving a car!

For me, it is the biker guy that actually drives on the wrong side of the road menacingly driving towards me from the opposite side, but flashes lights and honks to give him the way - I feel as if that he just wants me to magically disappear from the road so that he can just move on

Re: Common irritants while driving a car!

Over the years, I have been maintaining a pre-determined state of mind while driving.

Just like all our fingers are unique and different, there are all kinds of people not only outside on the road but also inside the vehicle Just have to learn to deal with each situation without impacting the state of mind.

- Folks who use tissue paper and stuff it in the door pockets or silently throw/litter them on the floor and eating while on the move. ( So I say to myself, I'll get the car cleaned after the long trip, let them do what they will anyway do)
- Folks who sit in the front and keep on talking and trying to divert my attention. ( just keep my focus and eyes on the road)
- Folks who will refuse to wear seat belt saying "I'll wear if I'm in front, there is no rule in India that I need to wear at the back " (If I'm in the city, I'll go slower to compensate in this case, on highways, I'll coarse them into yielding and wearing eventually)
- That persistent rattle that lingers service after service but always disappears while demonstrating to the technician - (I've learn't to just ignore them.)
- All those two wheelers and other cars who are in eternal hurry and zipping from left, right and cutting across ( just try to keep a larger margin to accomodate this bad habit and let them pass)
- Those slow moving trucks on the rightmost lane blocking traffic (my personal observation is that truckers are among the well behaved of the whole lot, often they have genuine constraints and need to maintain momentum with all that heavy load without getting obstructed, so they switch to the right. I never honk behind them but rather go slowly behind them and pass at the proper earliest opportunity.
- Folks approaching with intense high beam and not dipping ( No point getting irritated, just have to deal with it)

So I just decide to leave anger, ego, impatience, irritability behind and just drive with a calm state of mind. This really works and after a whole day of driving, feel just as alert and fresh as I was when starting out in the morning. There is no room to get irritated.

The only thing is I don't hand over the wheel to anyone else throughout the trip however long it is, its just me always in the driver's seat in my vehicle and not everyone may be happy with this

I hate when someone continuously blows horn. Literally irritates me.

Re: Common irritants while driving a car!

I usually get annoyed with unnecessary honking and using high beam on single line roads. However, I will keep my calm deducing that they must have been in some urgency.

Re: Common irritants while driving a car!

For me people driving on high beams even on well lit roads is a big irritant. The ones who have those bright white lights are the worst. Those white lights should be banned on vehicles.

Re: Common irritants while driving a car!

I feel very bad about driving a car on encountering below circumstances:

1) Honking continuously while a vehicle in front not having FASTAG and arguing with toll staff NOT to pay and reluctantly give a card to swipe
2) Bikes driving at middle of the road in a single lane/two lane way
3) Vehicles making a quick cross from a bylane in a junction in a split second when they know the vehicles in main road is at closer distance
4) Opposite vehicles not changing to low beam when you reduce to low beam
5) Opposite vehicles with white halogen light and doing the above (They need to know that in order to be safe it is also important for opposite vehicle to let them SEE IN FRONT)
6) Big pot holes in national highways
7) Political functionaries vehicles honking long and driving dangerously with the claim of right of way ONLY to them

Hope things improve as more people behave mature, realize safety and precaution than just SHOW OFF.
