MG Motor India is expanding its Hector range with the introduction of the new 'Shine' variant. It will be launched on August 12, 2021.



The Shine variant is expected to be positioned between the 'Super' and 'Smart' trims. According to leaked images, the SUV will be equipped with a single-pane sunroof.

MG has still kept details of the Shine variant under wraps. Whether it will get both petrol and diesel engine options remains to be seen.

The MG Hector comes with a 168 BHP, 2.0-litre diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 141 BHP and 250 Nm mated to 6-speed manual gearbox, DCT, and a CVT, as well as a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid powertrain paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Looks to be a response to the new wave of offerings in this price bracket with Pano sunroofs. Alcazar started it and Tata quickly responded by launching the Harrier and Safari XTA+ variants - these are mid spec variants with a pano sunroof. Hector is now responding to this move with the Shine variant to stay in the game. I know a couple of people who crave a pano sunroof but could not afford the top end versions - they went for the Harrier XT+ just for that reason. They are finding the XTA+ launched this week too pricey. The Hector Shine may offer the right balance of features and price for some buyers.

Seems like this variant is going to get a single-pane i.e regular sunroof, and not the panoramic sunroof that other variants get. At least that is how it appears looking at the source mentioned by OP

1. Go to the Team-BHP news section and select MG from the makes dropdown. See how many announcements are there for MG.

While it is good that MG is taking active interest in Indian market and launching new products (there is one more news today about MG launching sub 4 m SUV), they are neglecting one simple long due demand from users - Providing diesel automatic in MG Hector and Hector plus.

While in this segment, there are good options in diesel manual like Jeep compass or in petrol automatic like Octy, hardly anything good is available in diesel automatic (except may be harrier). Not sure why diesel automatic is pushed out by MG in singularity while in the other areas they are making good progress.

This is probably the only wrong move MG has done since it started it's India innings. They should have rather bought a higher variant/ or given the panoramic sunroof to some lower variant. Most people don't care about EPB, auto hold or even ventilated seats, if they are getting panoramic sunroof.

This is one of the major reasons Harrier/Safari sales have been higher than MG twins in recent months.

A mid spec variant covering quiet a bit of the basics is very welcome.
But considering the Hector's size, segment, and the diesel engine (from FCA), a diesel AT would do wonders. Also considering the gas guzzling nature of their 1.5 Turbo petrol DCT, a diesel with a torque converter will offer all together. Right from performance, reliability, efficiency....

Car looks beautiful. Especially loved the attention to detail and the modern sleek aesthetic look. But, one jarring note was the exhaust of the car in this video, which seems to be having a lot of rust, very is surprising for a brand new car. Ruins the entire video, since its so prominently visible in many frames. Seems like there are quality issues which need urgent attention.

Good initiative by MG. I do personally like this size sunroof as the panoramic roof is a heat magnet, especially here in North INDIA.

The only thing which Hector is missing is AT transmission in Diesel units.

Hope they realize this soon and launch the AT in diesel.

Good move by MG. At this price point, there are only a few options and Hector seems to be offering all the relevant features.

With Creta's waitlisting becoming miles long, this can be a sensible alternative.
