In Europe the top end Astra comes with the BIG 2.2 liter engine! Maybe Gm can push the Vectra's engine into the Astra and give the corolla and maybe even bigger Accord's a run for their money!

a 2.2L Astra! where?
GM/OPEL/CHEVY could easily position the car as a premium Optra. The Optra suffers from the Daewoo Nubira hangover. The Opel on the other hand suffers from high price spare parts / maintanance issues.

A good car no doubt, but it starts to suck when the companies start to indianise it... detune the engine or for that matter use the already exisiting wheezing engines...smaller higher profile tires..exhorbitant prices for alloys and it's hardly an attractive car. plus they will probably price it at twice the price in other countries.
of course they would probably be better off bringing in the astra cabriolet designed by bertone...probably as a one off.

i have never heard of indianising the astra. detuneing the engine would hardly serve any purpose. it was not that powerful to begin with. what i hoped they'd do is retain the astra's road manners and inject it with some fun (maybe a version the 1.8L found in the Optra) and pizzaz (the dash and body style are a bit dated). and pit it againt the Octavia, Corolla, Elantra etc - one step above their Optra. if only wishes were horses.

I dont think GM is comfy with the Name or Brand , as it really didnt click. SO if they wany to sell in volume they have to use the chevvy brand only .
And that is one reason they brought in the chevvy brand .
