Maruti Suzuki India Limited on Friday announced to undertake a recall of some petrol variants of Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross, and XL6. This is to inspect for a possible defect in 181,754 units of these models manufactured between 4th May 2018 to 27th October 2020.

Recall campaigns are undertaken globally to rectify faults that may be potential safety defects. The recall is to inspect for a possible defect in 181,754 units of models manufactured between 4th May 2018 to 27th October 2020.

“In the interest of customers, Maruti Suzuki has decided to voluntarily recall the affected vehicles for inspection/replacement of Motor Generator Unit, free of cost. Affected vehicle owners would be receiving a communication from Maruti Suzuki authorized workshops," the company said in a regulatory filing.

The replacement of the affected part shall start from the first week of November 2021. The company has requested cusomers to avoid driving in waterlogged areas and direct water spray on electrical/electronic parts in vehicles.

Customers of suspected vehicles can also visit the ‘Imp Customer Info’ section on the Company websites www.marutisuzuki.com (for Ertiga and Vitara Brezza) or www.nexaexperience.com (for Ciaz, XL6 and S-Cross) and fill-in their vehicle’s chassis number (MA3, followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number) to check if their vehicle needs any attention.

The chassis number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also mentioned in the vehicle invoice/registration documents.

I checked my August 2020 manufactured S-Cross and it is part of the recall.

Will visit the service centre next time I go to Chandigarh.

Wow! that is a big lot of cars spanning more than 2 years. It is good that Maruti is acknowledging the issue and intends to rectify it free of charge. Kudos.

This is the second recall for the same part if i am not wrong fortunately in the first recall my Sept-19 manufactured XL6 was not part of it but it seems this time i am in the affected list. Till now unfortunately i had to drive through water reaching till the fog lamps twice and have come out unaffected

Recall is a good thing, only thing we need to be vigilant about is Belt tension. Make sure it is the same post replacement.

Shashi

Yes, My March 2019, Ertiga is eligible too. I wonder if this is related to the previous recall. They had changed the MGU back then if I am not mistaken.

I am a bit wary now since I have been driving the car in rains in the last two months (not through waterlogged areas though) and just yesterday washed the car at a shop where they washed the engine bay as well

Had planned some long trips in October, hopefully will be able to drive safely till then.

We have to thank the social media partially for this I guess . None of the OEM's want a backlash on the social media for a fault that they could have rectified before it burst out into a bigger issue . Also makes them look humble that they are willing to accept a mistake and rectify it and care for the safety of the customer.

Our 2018 Ciaz facelift petrol alpha is also a part of this recall. So MGU is a part of the ISG used in smart hybrid vehicles of Maruti, or it is the complete ISG itself?

Re: Maruti Suzuki recalls 1.80 lakh vehicles over a 'possible defect'.

I own an OCT 2018 manufactured Celerio and I have also got message recently from Maruti to avoid driving in water logged areas and in heavy rain.
I think it could be possible that Maruti may recall other models also sometime later if the issue exists in them or is the MGU different in other models ?

This is a standard message and I too get this for 2009 WagonR. So don't worry and drive happy

Complete ISG is internally called MGU, Motor-Generator unit. This unit.
