I bought a Tata Nexon in February 2021 and I am pretty happy with my decision. But, some times while I drive with other friends with their cars, I observe the better features or aspects of their vehicles. Though we love our cars, we still made a compromise on some small aspects during the purchase due to lack of exact package that we wanted within our budgets. For example, some of the compromises that I had to make,
- 3 cylinder engine - on refinement part
- Tata's fit, finish and ergo - I hear squeaks when I touch few interior trims
- Features - selected XM variant due to budget
- FE - Can't ask more with given weight and power (mapping)
Given a chance to pick and place any aspect or package from any manufacturer within a given budget, would make us get a perfect car which would be our dream car. I said dream car because it's impossible to do what I just said. But, let's keep the practicality apart, step into a VR game and say you can build a car of your choice with combining different aspects from different manufacturers or models but limited to a budget of say
20 lakh OTR and models that
are/were available in India. What would your dream car consist of? I believe this can help people to find better options that are available today in every aspects and can influence their purchase.
Here is what I want in mine,
Now it's your chance to put together your
dream car and I am intrigued to see your builds , Go wild!
My BYOD is very simple
Honda HRV - with Hyundai Palisade's Gizmos and at Suzuki's Price.
My requirement is very simple & probably near to achievable...
SCross 1.6 with...
- 200mm GC
- Stage 1 mapping from Wolf Moto
- LED headlamp from Mercedes Benz
- Premium silver color
Nexon build (5 Star)
XUV700 Dashboard/Infotainment & Engine paired to a DSG/DCT with bulletproof reliability. (No ZIP/ZAP/ZOOM please)
MG Astor Interior Quality/Materials
Maruti Price and Service
No 80/120 Chimes, NO DPF
Also a honda civic laptop lol:
Interesting idea. I agree with your comments about how you got this idea. We all have made compromises in choosing our cars and who would not dream of a car that is free from these compromises?

However, here is the problem: All of these cars are under Rs. 20L
because of these compromises. If we pick and choose the best features of all these cars, then the combined dream car will go way beyond Rs. 20L budget. Therefore, maybe to keep this discussion meaningful, we should ask people to drop one feature from their dream car for every one feature they pick from another car. Then we will really get the feel of how complex a real-world car designing and budgeting is. lol:
Anyways, keeping that aside, my dream combination would be a Skoda Kushaq with a 1.5 TSi MT (which is 16L OTR in Bangalore), with added 4x4 from Mahindra Thar, and let Maruti be the official service partner for that :-). Essentially I will take the best of Skoda, Mahindra and Maruti. I hope that would still remain under 20L OTR.
Oh man, I can't say enough how much I wished if we could build our own car. I'm getting my first ever car delivered this Friday - the Mahindra XUV3OO W8(O) Diesel MT.

Truer words cannot be said. Somewhere on this thread, I read the quote "The perfect car is what we compromise on". If only we didn't have to.
So here goes my list of additions for the XUV3OO Diesel MT.
1. Torque Converter gearbox
2. Bigger boot space, somewhere around 350L will be more than sufficient
3. Rear AC vents
4. AWD
5. A higher GC (somewhere in the 200mm territory)
6. Add all the features that were deleted (c'mon Mahindra!)
I am pretty satisfied with my choice of Nexon KRAZ Petrol (which is same as XM but with different colour inserts).
Without changing the space, handling, ride and ground clearance, I would like to swap the engine with Ecosport 1.5 L titanium petrol engine. I do not crave for added features and electronic gizmos.
I used to think about a Fiat Linea with Hyundai's 1.6 CRDi heart way back when.
Maybe someday, as a project car...!
Quoting myself from another thread. :D

If wishes were horses. The bodyshape, engine, drivetrain and tuning from XUV300. The overall quality, interiors, seats and steering feel from Ecosport. The body quality, space and suspension tuning from Nexon in a friendly package of the Brezza.
Bonus? A.S.S from Toyota
|
Or just give the XUV300 a 6spd Aisin torque convertor with the 1.5l diesel and allow Ford to tune the steering like an Ecosport. Allow it to grow to the original 4.3m length.

Another option using this criteria.

1st gen Innova- With the body panel quality from an 80s Merc or 90s Lexus.
- Interiors of 2nd gen Innova.
- Either the 2.5l KD engine (VnT version)- 140+bhp and 343nm torque
- Or the 2.4l GD engine.
- Both with a 6 speed manual transmission.
- Useful features inspired from Skoda's L&K line.
'nuf. For a practical car for Indian conditions.
I just wish that Chevrolet would have continued selling their cars in India!
Been using Chevy cars for almost 12 years now, never been let down. Good FE, comfort, and handling.
My dream car would be very simple:
- long travel suspension to dismiss our terrible roads in comfort
- sub 700 kilo weight (including fluids and driver)
- a V6 built out of two Triumph Daytona 3cyl motors bolted longitudinally for a mid-rear layout
- 15 inch wheels so that the tyres are cheap
- no extra leds, features, or unnecessarily fussy details over the vents and grilles, a very simple design language
- compact size
- plush fabric interior
Sort of a posh go-kart for a rally-cross stage is what I'm looking for :D
TBH my dream car would be a more like bit of improvement of my current car
A Toyota Etios Liva with -
- Better Interiors
- More ground clearance
- Hybrid.
- A bigger diesel engine.
- A sight different body style, maybe a CUV.
- Let the previous gen. buttons stay, I am a old school guy.
- Similarly let the previous AC vents stay, they are kinda fun looking.
Putting this bout there hoping someone from Hyundai adds it to their plan :)
My BYOD would be - A Creta with better looks, brown leather interiors and a more powerful engine (2.0 turbo) with a DCT. Price it at a 1-2 lakh premium over the regular one and launch it as a Creta Sport.
Otherwise the car has everything you need in cities these days - compact size but enough space for 5 + luggage, good ground clearance, electric ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof.
I am a man of simple needs.....
All I want is a stage 3 tuned Skoda Octavia VRS with a manual gearbox and Toyota reliability.
Cheers,
D
Skoda Slavia with the Jetta diesel engine, or a Kushaq with the same. Either of them would be my perfect car considering the packed metro with small roads, that I live in.
