| ![]() Maruti Suzuki has quite a few new cars lined-up for launch this year and one of them is the Celerio CNG. According to a media report, it could be launched later this month. ![]() The report states that the Celerio CNG could be launched around January 20, 2022. However, there is no official word regarding this yet. The second-generation Celerio was launched in November last year. The car is based on the Heartect platform and is slightly larger than its predecessor. Powering the Celerio is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 66 BHP and 89 Nm. While the petrol version comes with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT, the CNG version will be manual only. The Maruti Celerio CNG will compete with the upcoming Tata Tiago CNG. BHPian ![]() | ![]() This should see some takers, pretty sure a lot of people were sitting on fence for the CNG variant but the price is atrocious. On road will be 7+ and that's just greed from MS for that 1L churning out 66bhp and lack of features in VXi variants. |

Almost 1 lakh costlier than its Petrol counterpart? What are you thinking, Maruti? It may be your "diesel replacement", but not of others. |

| ![]() That’s one headline grabbing economy figure. Unfortunately, the pricing, which was already optimistic to begin with, now borders on atrocious. Maruti is cashing in on the fact that aftermarket CNG conversations for BS6 cars are not being endorsed in the biggest CNG markets. The only way of having a road legal CNG car today is to buy a CNG model straight from the showroom. That is what is allowing them to charge this unreasonable premium. It’s just cashing in on what is very likely a ‘lobbied’ ban. |

BHPian ![]() | ![]() The some kind of component shortage (may be the same ongoing semiconductor shortage but not sure) has caused the price of after market CNG kits to go up. As far as I know the latest prices of CNG kit is in the range of 70,000 INR in Pune. So on the same lines 1 lakh price premium seems 'somewhat' justified for a company fitted kit. |
