Hi

This should be one scorcher of a (desi) suv, now with 135 horses and safety features like ABS, EBD , Airbags & stuff.

Would love to have some feedback about ownership experience / test drive reports, etc.

cheers

Safari is beginning to look dated now when compared to newer SUVs. Guzzles petrol like its going out of style. 5 kmpl max in the city. Its up for an exterior revamp now.

hi adi
i have driven my friend's petrol safari and compard it with my diesel one

one thing i have observed is it is light years ahead of my diesel one,
the gear shift has improved a lot and the power is *really good for overtaking other cars!!!!!
the interiors have really changed and if far more better and luxourious

my friend got it converted to gas kit(the *petrol bunk fill up type, not the cylinder) as he was getting 5 to 6 in city

i have driven it both before and after, i felt the power reduced a little bit after the conversion but is more than adequate
the lpg in hyd costs 21 rs per kg , so he is pretty happy with it
best part it he picked up the fully loaded petol for less the price of the diesel lx!!!!1
over all i liked it and is far better than the diesel version

The petrol Safari is a total waste. Despite all their advertising about more power than you can handle, it takes all of 18 seconds to reach the 100 mark. Top it up with an average of 5.5 in the city, looks that you can do without, interiors that are worse off than an ambulance...a big YAWN!

Avoid it, spend that money on a propah C-segmenter

Infact GTO...i think v can approx. compare the Safari with the Vitara (not for price)*as it gives around 144 bhp and Safari around 135... and i think the vitara goes from 0-100 in about 11 seconds or so... and i would go for the vitara.. but again the new look vitara looks crap.. the front looks like an afraid face

135 is too little for a 2-tonne vehicle. And the Safari looks also very outdated.A Corolla or top-of-the-line Scorpio[Rev 116, i guess] would be a better option.

I really havent seen many petrol Safaris on the road here. I wanted to test one but really didnt get the chance. Sure its got 135 horses and may not be sluggish as the diesel but with 5.5 kmpl in the ciry that too petrol and with petrol prices set to rise again, its a no no. Also now the Safari is quite dated compared to the competition and Tata really have think of revamping it or replacing it with a better vehicle and a good engine.

i cant believe tata even though they have one of the best engineers in the world ..mr. v sumantran..they r still struggling to find a new design for the tata. if they can work and india v2 and marina i am sure they ca ndo better here.....why the hell dont they atleast get a crdi...i am sure that wont be a problem..since they acquired the daewoo plant some of those koreans will be only too happy to oblige..!

You got to realise that all thse cars were already signed off when this guy joined. He has put a lot of work into revamping them. Expect more when the next generation of paltforms come out

I agree that the new front end of the Vitara is not all that appealing, but mind you...the new Vitara is also 160 Horses!! And its got a 10 second 0-100 timing. Thats just about half the time that the Safari takes. The Safari may have 135 horses but then it weighs in at 2100 kgs....thats more like a Tata 407 Mini Truck!

The Safari is too-underpowered, too crude and too outdated to be considered as a buy in 2004

GTO

Tatas have the best engine in the world !!!
As said above ...........it is outdated and with that mileage ............it is better to keep miles away from buying it .

now should i take that as a compliment ? well...yeah i was offered the car design jobs at telco once upon a time long before the indica and the safari came out...its a different story that it didn't work out some how

The SAFARI petrol must be available very cheap in the used car market, and maybe most of them did not clock too many kilometers. This surely must be the cheapest way to get into the SAFARI club

Uh... TheArun, thats a 4 year old thread you just replied to
