When is Mahindra launching the Scorpio Eagle 2.2?....EDIT Now Launched

Hi,

Anyone here in teambhp who is a insider who can tell me when M&M will launch new Scorpio 2.2 Eagle version. I have reached a point where I want to book a scorpio in a week or so, but just trying hard to push it further to get a more powered, ligher Scorpio 2.2 . However as M&M is not releasing any news statement, dealers obviously not revealing anything, it is become nightmare to decide whether to book or not .

If I book now and see next month it is released, it will such a bad thing.

thanks

count me in the same boat too. Have been waiting for its launch since long now. Have even tried googling to find out if there is any news release. Have even checked their SA and USA sites - however no luck. They seem to be very tightlipped about the date and price of release.

answer is near the time when the Safari 2.2ltr will be launched and when the Safari 2.2 ltr will be launched ??? No one knows, just Kiddin.

On a serious thought No one will be able to tell you that the but best bet is too wait till August, most launches are supposed to happen during the next 2 months.

If they change only the powertrain, the 2.6 is probably a safer car. You'll live longer, and so will others around you.

that engine is lighter than the current one(70 kgs approx), so you will get a better handling scorpio

It was supposed to be launched in Q2 2007 but I am told it is delayed to Early 2008 (It is still a rumor though).

Now why am I so skeptical about that?

Gonna take more than just the engine weight reduction I'd say

Nah, I would be skeptical about any vehicle of those proportions becoming a better "handler" simply by 70kg engine weight reduction. "Quicker"? Maybe

And I don't know why you think I'm a Mahindra hater.....I don't hate Scorpios, just disappointed with them for not having safety equipment, 4 wheel drive and HUGE space on the inside and a comfy center row seats as options

ive been hearing stories about it releasing "100%" last december from an m&m employee...so it has to be the wait and watch game...you cant rely on unofficial confirmations...

The rear suspension as we all know has been beefed up. They've done away with the leaf springs and the vehicle is now equipped with coil springs. Unfortunately the vehicle still exhibits loads of understeer, the main culprit being the weight of the engine. I am not being overly optimistic but beleieve that with the lighter engine the handling will improve incredibly.

The new engine is supposedly all aluminum and and is supposed to be 70 to 75 kgs lighter. When I asked an indside source about it's launch the only answer i got was - " Abhi time hai" Apparently there are still some things being ironed out. Like someone earlier said, maybe Diwali or later.

It takes an average of 18 months of rigorous design, prototyping and testing, to take an existing well performing block and add the common rail function to it. M&M claimed to have done their first effort with Bosch on the 2.6 pushrod in 12months. Even if M&M has completed it and it is all working fine, they won't launch it till they need to i.e. one of these two things happen
1. The sales of the existing scorps slump. Which does not look like it's happening in a hurry
2. Tata's launch the 2.2 Safari DiCor (Maybe they are in Cahoots with each other and have decided to milk the cows they already have out there)

And ah, even if either of the above happened, there is the small matter of the 'facelift' which the Indian market has come to expect with every new launch.
