Toyota Innova Crysta Petrol Limited Edition launched at 17.45 lakh

The Petrol-only Limited Edition is already on their webpage now. Not sure if the deliveries will be made post launch only or something like that.

A couple of items from the standard accessories list seem to be included with this edition although 'Conditions apply' is mentioned as well

The accessories are not even well integrated and look like typical low quality after-market stuff. Such a lame attempt and calling it a limited edition is even going even low.

Looks like a typical stock clearing exercise. Get rid of existing inventory without having to resort to discounting, before the new model comes in.

This further cements the fact that the diesel booking are being stopped for stock clearing, Toyota is using every trick in the book not realizing that suddenly its starting to look like a child who want a candy come what may.

Reputation damaging stuff this.

Limited Edition, really !!
Innova Petrol is already limited edition. It is as rare as a Fiat on our roads.

I have a simple mantra, if car or particular model requires 'limited edition' to sell, there is something not so good about the product. Precisely the reason, I don't consider Tata Harrier / Safari as great products.

This is a stock clearance exercise for sure, but halting diesel booking to promote it is stooping to new low by Toyota.

A couple of years ago, Toyota thought of getting CNG variants for Innova and retaining Liva in CNG after Euro 6 norms kicked in. But that project did fall through.

Given the way Maruti & Toyota collaborate, can we see a Petrol Innova CNG now, since Diesel is not being offered?

Where is the space for the CNG tank, though, if it has to do as many miles as its diesel counterpart on a single fill? OTOH, is there a "strong" hybrid Innova coming soon? Then again, where does the battery sit? There is no way the seating ease or comfort should be compromised! It loses its USP.

re: Toyota Innova Crysta Petrol Limited Edition launched at 17.45 lakh

At 17.45L the limited edition is cheaper than regular GX, which is retailing at ~17.75L? Either way, Toyota is clearing inventory of Innova and Fortuner too, given the high number of dispatches last two months.

1. Innova hycross launch around corner, Crysta to be discontinued. In recent times, yellow board registrations of Innova crysta has dropped significantly, and most likely Toyota will replace Crysta with Hycross.

2. Updating engines to meet newer BS6 norms. I doubt Toyota would invest in updating 2.4 D4D as Hycross launch is around corner and knowing Toyota, they would remove Crysta from product line up.

3. As for Fortuner, we haven't seen all new Hilux/Fortuner test mules anywhere in world yet, so most likely current model will continue for a year or two before making way for an all new model. Fortuner will come with minor update(Engine, few cosmetics/features) to keep it going.

According to various sources and dealerships Innova Crysta has only been temporarily discontinued. Both HyCross and Crysta are going to be sold side-by-side from Jan 2023.

Toyota India invested a massive amount to set-up a plant to assemble the GD Series engines in India both 2.4L and 2.8L. There is no chance they will discontinue 2.4L and let the 2.8L continue. If it’s to be discontinued, both will be discontinued together…

These large capacity diesels are a dying breed, buy them before they go extinct. Both 2.4L and 2.8L are superior motors and I only hope they last for a few more years before succumbing to EVs and Hybrids.

Agree on engine part, however similar rumours made rounds when Toyota was replacing Qualis and Innova. Dealers were confident that existing models would continue but we all know what Toyota did.

Looks like main reason to "temporarily" halt booking of diesel is to clear stock of petrol Crysta and petrol models will be surely discontinued once new MPV with hybrid powertrain launches.

  • Toyota has dispatched 6,036 Innovas in August 2022
  • The average monthly dispatch in 2022 stands at 5,436 units
  • Since its introduction in 2005, till August 2022: Toyota has sold 9,83,814 Innovas in India. That is very close to the upcoming 10 lakh milestone
  • Out of those - 7,166 units had petrol drivetrains
  • In the last 18 years, the petrol mix has been mere 0.7% for two generations

This is very surprising that Petrol Innovas are only around 7K units since start of Production. I would have thought it would have been at least 3-4% of total Innovas sold. Given this kind of demand, I wonder why they even continued offering this as an option at all since they would have to take care of engine component spares etc.

It would be good to get some perspective from Petrol owners in terms of how easy it was to get parts on an ongoing basis. Or is it that due to the bulletproof reliability, the chances of things failing is so small for this to be a concern?
