Is the petrol MT model still available? I thought that was discontinued.

Sport Diesel MT retails at 26 lacs on road. Isn't it a bit ambitious of a pricing by Jeep?

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

Jeep Compass is becoming the Toyota Fortuner of the mid-SUV segment in terms of pricing.

It’s almost like no competition, nothing being deleted or added in terms of equipment and the prices going up almost every quarter but it sells consistently even after this, ala Fortuner!!

39 Lakhs OTR for the Diesel AT Top-end is atrocious, not considering the Trailhawk at 41L OTR…

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

There was a price hike of ~35,000/- back in July. And with the current 90,000/- hike, the OTR has moved up significantly in the last two months.

I bought the Compass 4x2 Diesel Limited MT back in April when the OTR was 29.89L. 5 months later, the OTR is up by almost 2L to 31.8L.

It is almost as if Jeep took our pricing criticism of the Meridian to the heart. The price difference between Compass and Meridian was too much at around 7 lakhs and we had given feedback during the review that it should be max 5L. Now they have reduced it as requested, but instead of slashing Meridian price, Compass was increased to match!

Jokes apart, competition has moved up as well. While the Tucson was recently positioned much higher than earlier generation from 27.69 to 34.39 ex- showroom, the C5 Aircross is also expected to move up significantly from 37 lakh to Rs 40 lakh range when the facelift is launched next week. Compass is inching towards the end of it's lifecycle though and Jeep cannot hope to match these products in terms of pricing and still sell.

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

The top-end Meridian is just 4 lakhs dearer to the Compass Trailhawk ex-showroom price! There is no rationale to the pricing mechanism employed by car companies for their marquee products. No price is too high when your clientele is ready to shell out the big bucks for the badge notwithstanding paltry VFM proposition.

Unfortunately, yes, from a customer's perspective. The Toyota Fortuner's price seems more inelastic in comparison to the Jeep Compass, especially after the demise of the Ford Endeavour. Even when Endeavour was there, Fortuner remained the benchmark in terms of pricing, as Endeavour couldn’t match the strongman (customer segment) image of Fortuner. In the case of the Jeep Compass, monthly average sales have settled around 1,000 units, down from 2,000 units at the time of launch in 2017.

What economic theory says: "The availability of a substitute for a product affects its elasticity. If there are no good substitutes and the product is necessary, demand won’t change when the price goes up, making it inelastic."

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

Got pretty lucky to have driven home a fully loaded Limited Plus 4X2 2.0 MT Compass, in December 2020 for an on-road price lesser than the Sport variant of today.

After all discounts it cost me 22.45 lakhs OTR in Himachal.

I think it was a good decision to not have waited for the facelift, since mechanically the car remains the same. Not only have the prices from Jeep gone up since, but the registration fees in Himachal was more than doubled just 3 days after I registered mine.

I expect the demand of compass will get some hit in coming months. Few reasons:

1. Product plagued by quality issues. Word of mouth is strong with social media and you tubers. Good design language will help just till some extent

2. Competitors are offering higher value: ScorpioN is even compared to Fortuner. Even Compass did not get that accolade due to small road presence.

3. Sales are clocking in mostly Tier 1 cities: where people have many other options for the price. Tier 2 and Rural has a great potential for SUVs, Jeep do not have potential to push their sales here.

4. Price hike makes the Jeep look like milking the single product. Jeep should understand the do not command brand position like Fortuner, Scorpio or even Safari/XUV.

You guys complained that the Meridian was not VFM priced as compared to the Compass. Look what Jeep did- they made the gap smaller

As you rightly mentioned, the Jeep Compass is relatively more vulnerable. The Compass has elastic demand as volume has settled to 1,000 units since launch, despite a very good recent facelift.

If I recall correctly, there were three products which enjoyed inelastic demand. Hyundai Creta, Toyota Innova, and Fortuner, as their attributes have not been very much emulated by the competition till date.

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

This is just teasing the upper circuit on the price elasticity in a market that is changing quickly. You know as a company that your target group is more or less going to be okay with a delta change on the product they would still buy. So you get elastic, and go to the upper band of the price for that demand. Without a good alternative, the big T's 4 wheel drive small car somehow could be wild card here, that could upset the plans, but still they have delivery challenges and Jeep does not have much. Its still 5 year old electronics they are running on, so they are better placed. So compass is the now the product where the final drop of juice is being drawn-out. The meridian, will just stay where it is, takers will take it, and those who see otherwise will do so. Jeep does not intend to sell many of them too, I guess there is not much aggression in selling it. The meridian might also go + 1L in the next months, there is room for that. Until Mahindra sorts out their electronics supply and bumps up the price of XUV by 1 - 2 L where is should be, so that they can make profits on it, and not keep it eye candy only there is some room for Jeep to play around.

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

Jeep compass has become a status symbol now and increased prices only mean more exclusivity, similar to Fortuner. Sadly, Compass has neither the reliability nor the resale value so middle class owners are going to be in for a surprise.

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

Jeep knows their numbers will be hit anyway after ScorpioN launch, XUV700 reduced waiting and Tucson launch.

So might as well increase prices to increase margins. At least overall profits shall be same.
