Hi folks,
with the influx of so many jeeps in india, which one do you guys think is good india wise ....
i mean they have really messed up the capacities of the jeeps if you compare the indian models to the ones available in the mid east(atleast)

which 4x4/SUV do u think is the best bet financially

financially? as in good VFM? or as in the one which makes the company more money?
VFM, i guess would be the Endeavour. i would have said the Scorpio, but they 4wd version isn't out yet.
i guess the Bolero makes the Mahindra's most money.
my choice? the Suba..errr....Chevrolet Forester. all the cheap interiors apart.

wat do u think about pajero or grand vitara .... where do they stand

If you are looking for pure-offroadability, the Mahindra Classic and Maruti Gypsy rule. The most capable mountain goats you can find in India.

ello ...wat abt the terracan? I think its got everything right except the badge.the slighlty nervous handling can be sorted out bu wider popping out tyres ...its great value for money..esp the 2004 version...has tat stonking crdi under its hood...

If you want to have a lot of fun offroading, it will be hard to find a substitute for a Mahindra Jeep or Maruti Gypsy. These two may be old and crude, but they still among the most capable offroaders in the world.

If size matters, the Ford Endeavour is the one for you.

But if you want a vehicle that's not too big to drive in the city, looks nice, handles well and is also a very capable offroader, the Subaru / Chevrolet Forester is unbeatable.

If you want a pure Indian SUV, the Mahindra Scorpio is a wonderful VFM package. Just drive it within its limits, because its handling and brakes aren't really great.

You've asked about the Grand Vitara and the Pajero.
The Grand Vitara has a nice and smooth engine, but it isn't too good off the road. It ain't that good looking either. As for the Pajero (I presume you are asking about the 3.2), it's got almost everything - image, looks, offroading capabilty, etc. But then, it's pretty expensive.

Cheaper and better , Mahindra and Gypsy.
Pajero has got that image factor and it is really a good vehicle but it is expensive.
But Chevy Forr is a balance of all.
But you just want to have huge elephant....... then Ford END is the best.
Terracan is not worth buying !!!!!!

The brakes are very impressive and i believe the stopping distance figures are shorter than some C-segment cars!! (However i dnot have any mags around so i cant verify this...but i am pretty cetrain i remember this right )

Hey Rehaan,

There's no doubt that the Scorpio stops quicker than some cars, but, both Autocar India and Overdrive seemed to have problems with early brake fade.

I don't know if M&M have sorted out these problems in their latest Scorpios.

surprising the mahindra classic and the gypsy are still the kings of the offroads ......
out the these two giants which one wins ....
the classic or the gypsy ....
i prefer the classic's looks as its a copy of the wrangler and im a big fan of that even though it doesnt pack as much power under the hood as some other giants but then its not a hole burner either

I love the Mahindra Classic 4x4. Gypsy is also a very good off-roader. But, i like the former much better.
Willy's jeep(military green) too is one of my fav...

You want flash in your SUV then the Vitara and Ford Endeavour.

If you love going off-road and having your shoes soiled in muck then its the Gypsy and CJ for you.

If you want Power, off-roading ability and economy then its the Terracan for you.

But if you truly love scaling the Himalayas for breakfast and the Vindhyas for lunch, there's only one...

... the CHEVY Forester.

The Classic is exactly the CJ3B (excepting for Mahindra drivetrain and other under-the-hood mods), which was launched as the Willys Universal CJ3B in 1953. It was introduced ages before even the W of the Wrangler was conceived.

If anything, the Wrangler is a copy of the CJ3B, not otherwise.

Well.. the 4wd drive version is there always available.. its just that u gotto order it!


Well for me ..it will be the Scorpio or the Chevy Forester...i love both these offroaders....even though Forester being a rather softroader... its amazin boxer engine and that 4wd system....gr8.!

And for the Scorpio... one of the first excellent project undertaken by an indian company!
