Minister:

“On the 28th of this month, I am going to launch the Toyota flex-engine car in Delhi.”

He, however, did not specify which model this is.

Could it be the Yaris Cross that was seen testing in India? Or will it be from its existing models like Innova, etc.

I am guessing that this is going to be the Innova Crysta CNG. With Diesel bookings temporarily halted, this will surely be the next step.

But CNG isn’t a pilot program in India, since so many other manufacturers offer CNG in their various offerings.

Yaris Cross (atleast the Hybrid Model) has no space in their Indian Line-up.

Urban Cruiser will soon be discontinued once stocks are exhausted, and Urban Cruiser Hyryder is only slightly bigger than the Yaris Cross.

Unless Toyota India has made India specific changes to the Yaris Cross to make it fit the sub-4m category ala the Baleno Cross. But then again why will they modify a TNGA-based car…

I wonder what this flex-fuel car is…

EDIT: The Flex-Fuel car is the Camry as told by the minister during the unveiling of the hybrid-powered Mirai.

Looks like Nitin Ji is wooing Toyota with a "carrot" now that it's been giving some serious "stick" in the form of stricter emission norms and sky high taxes spelling doom for Toyota's high capacity diesels 2.4 and 2.8 that power it's bread and power products. The present 'Hybrid' ICE cars appear to have had some form of 'orchiectomy' done on them so they run around at a more sedate pace and conserve fuel and pressing the gas pedal get's you no where: other than the din of noise there's no progress. May be the Govt has realized that it's "high" tax regime is one of the causes of flight of capital and companies. But still the writing is on the wall for Toyota: "to be or not to be" that's the question!

I heard some manufacturers are gearing up and modifying their engines to take higher ethanol content. Autocar had reported an article saying bunch of Innova's coming out of ICAT citing emission failure but looks like there is a good possibility, these are the flex fuel cars that came for testing. If Toyota has altered Camry, will be a surprising move as the engine I believe is not manufactured here. Anyway Toyota is definitely upto something, hope things move in positive direction!

In fact that should make it easier, as I believe many cars in USA are E85 flex fuel rated.

Toyota Corolla to return to India, but as a test vehicle for Flex- Fuel.

Flex-fuel Toyota Corolla to be showcased in India on September 28.

The car that will be unveiled at this event will be a Toyota Corolla hybrid, which is currently on sale in markets like Brazil where the model is tuned to be used with ethanol-blended fuel.

Brazilian Ambassador to India, Andre Aranha Correa Do Lago, said his country would work with India on flex-fuel technology as well as other fuels like sustainable aviation fuels and hybrid flex-fuel vehicles.

the model that will be showcased in India will be the one that is sold in Brazil, which means it will be a left-hand-drive Corolla. It will be used as a technology demonstrator for Toyota in India, similar to the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai that was showcased here back in March.

The transport minister is also keen to have flex-fuel vehicles on sale in India soon.

While today’s petrol vehicles can handle a blend of up to 15 percent ethanol, a flex-fuel vehicle is one that can handle a varied and higher blend, typically up to 85 percent. And here too, Brazil has a well-developed market for flex-fuel vehicles with manufacturers like Toyota and Fiat having multiple models on sale.

You mean to say that it is going to be on sale to the public? I guess not.

As per this report by Autocarpro

"The model that will be showcased in India will be the one that is sold in Brazil, which means it will be a left-hand-drive Corolla. It will be used as a technology demonstrator for Toyota in India, similar to the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai showcased in March 2022 in India."

He should stop forcing his dreams on people and industry. Esp not without consultation with experts and without discussing, outlining the benefits as well as a roadmap.

Transport Minister who runs sugarcane factories is backing 100% ethanol powered cars. No conflict of interest at all. This is the same person who made fastag mandatory for all cars and now wants to switch to some license plate tracking shenanigans.

Oh Lord Toyota, even if it is for testing/PR/lobbying, the 12th gen Corolla has touched Indian soil.

We, third world proletariats are grateful for this benevolent gesture. Ofcourse, just showcase it. We dare not even dream of it being on sale in the Indian market. :Frustrati

Compatible with Electric? Is this a PHEV, that they are claiming this to be compatible with electric fuel?rl:

Introduced and with a bang, the Toyota Corolla Altis comes back after hibernating for a while, but this time as a flexi fuel car, a favourite technology of Mr Gadkari. The car launched by him is a LHD version, an import which shows that Toyota was in a great hurry to get there as the old adage "the early bird gets the worm" goes.

The engine is of 1.8 L and is powered by either petrol or 20-100% ethanol or electric. It means that the present 10% ethanol blending by oil companies will make its engine yell "givve me moree(ethanol)!!!!

HeroMotocorp, TVS and Bajaj have also readied such versions but in the car segment Toyota leads.
