The Mahindra Roxor has been spotted in India for the first time, which suggests that the carmaker could be planning to introduce it in the domestic market.
The Roxor was developed by Mahindra Automotive North America (MANA) specifically for the US market. However, the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) project soon ran into legal troubles due to its Jeep CJ-inspired design.
Mahindra was forced to redesign the Roxor after it lost the intellectual property suit filed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). Now, the vehicle spotted in India is the new Roxor with the updated front fascia.
The Roxor is powered by a 2.5-litre, m2DiCR turbocharged diesel engine that produces 61 BHP @ 3,200 rpm and 195 Nm of torque @ 1,400-2,200 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and has 4WD with a 2-speed transfer case.

Is the Roxor's engine is its current form BS6 compliant?
While Mahindra had it's legal reasons for this hideous front fascia in the USA, in our home country not many would want to stray away from the traditional Jeep CJ5/7 face popularized by generations of MM540s,550s, and the 1st gen Thar. Besides this face looks a bit like the 1st gen Tempo Trax, which has its own cult following.
I wonder if that's an automatic Roxor that Mahindra is testing here? IIRC, Roxor had an AT version just before the front fascia was changed due to the design infringement lawsuit.
There are slim chances of Roxor being launched in India, unless Mahindra wants to pitch it against Suzuki Jimmy.
If this car was being tested for India, I believe it would sport a Right Hand Drive orientation of the steering, no?
It will not be launched in India there is no market.
At most its a internal testing for US market.
Its an LHD, so that rules out introducing it for Indian market.
Would have been exciting if this was RHD, but this looks definitely like testing something for the international market, since the last place that the Roxor (1st gen Thar) needs testing for is the Indian market.:p
That said, they could launch this with the 1.5l diesel engine (either 3 pot or i4), and maybe price it below 8 lakhs...:D
The Roxor has built quite fan following in US along with Mahindra tractors. Kudos to Mahindra.

This one (if at all launched!) with the 100 BHP powertrain of Bolero Neo might make a good & cheaper alternative to Thar for the ones now not being able to go for it due to the price tag of Thar.

The matured US market, which use this equipment like it's meant to, loves it for the powertrain & driveline. It's old school diesel torque against paper numbers. It also does 70+ mph on highways and stays there. I'd gladly take it over any new age contraption to put around.

Jeeps (and most of the other utility vehicles) are bought for load hauling abilities on inclines: this necessitates the usable torque figures at lowest possible RPM.
195 Nm torque
@1400-2200 rpm is pretty good.
Which other vehicle are having similar torque at this low RPM.

Got it sir, actually I was comparing the BHP power of this car with the power of normal Mahindra cars like Scorpio, XUV500,700,300 etc.Thank you very much sir for removing my superstition
With the Thar moving so upmarket, could there be a business case for a cheap 4x4 though? I think it could be worth a few hundred units each month and there's no real cost to Mahindra as it's already building the Roxor / has the supply chain ready.

I drive a 2.5L engine from the same family and can tell you it's pathetic on the open road. Very good & tractable under 70 kmph, but a pain at 80 kmph and above.

My old 2005 Bolero (2WD Sportz) had the Peugeot derived XD3PU engine. It wasnt turbo charged. But it was less agricultural sounding than the Di engine.
It put out around 65 bhp. I have forgotten the torque figures but the torque used to kick in pretty early at 1200rpm or so and it was great when climbing hills of all kinds even with a full load.
But that thing used to absolutely cry to go beyond 100-110kmph on the highways. It had no juice to overtake and all when going flat out. It was overall a very nice Jeep though. A reliable load carrying workhorse.
