2022 Nissan X-Trail spied in India

Quoting the article -

Quote:
Nissan is looking to continue the momentum by unveiling a new car on the 18th of October. So what could Nissan launch in India? Earlier it was speculated to be Nissan leaf. However, we have obtained a spy pic of a very different Nissan car in India. This spied car could be the Nissan X-Trail.

As a product, the X-Trail is a big car, which is 4,681mm in length and has three rows of seats. The new generation launched in 2022 comes with an aggressive design language. What about the interiors? The X-Trail comes with a premium fit and finish in the interior, being one of the flagship models in Nissan’s global lineup. Globally, the X-Trail comes with a 1.5-litre turbo engine and also the same engine comes with an electric motor called the e-Power. In terms of features, it has a 10.8-inch heads-up display, a 12.3-inch infotainment system and a panoramic sunroof.

Dear Mods, I'm confused as to in which thread should this be posted, so kindly do the needful. Also, could this be the X-Trail e-Power hybrid?

2.5 Liter would be the right choice for this niche product in India like the spec in Australia:

Re: 2022 Nissan X-Trail spied in India

X Trail name does have a good recall.

October 18 should reveal whats the Next for Nissan.

But if this 2022 XTrail is localized and is coming to India in 5/7 seaters, then Creta/Alcazar, Harrier/Safari and Hector twins will have some serious competition.

More so if this comes with the 1.5 Turbo with ePower Hybrid.

What happened to the 7 seater Magnite?

Some rumors with dealers that fully upgraded Go hatch branded Nissan is also on the cards.

Electric Leaf with the range it has currently and the price it will come at would not really make sense in my opinion.

Re: 2022 Nissan X-Trail spied in India

The Hybrid version is a more extreme interpretation of a series hybrid powertrain than the one in Hondas. While a clutch engages between the engine and the drive train within a speed envelope that is efficient in case of Honda's PTs, Nissan's IC engine has no mechanical connection to the wheels whatsoever.

Here is a nice review by Car Expert:

The X-Trail is more of a CR-V & Tucson level competitor, rather than in the Creta or Harrier segments. If it comes to India, you can expect the car to easily cost 35 lakhs.

Localized was keyword made me think possibly they could go for that segment of Safari Alcazar 700 Hector Plus.

Also the full camoflage got me excited, thought possibly Nissan has managed to engineer some CMF-A+++ platform, low cost for India

Yes internationally XTrail is a Premium product.

But in that case of positioning, dont know if 2/3 digit sales would suffice Nissan.

Re: 2022 Nissan X-Trail spied in India

This X-trail, no matter what spec it is in, is the need of the hour for us here.
For 2 reasons mainly,
1. When it comes to reliability (in this price bracket of 40-50L), Fortuner wins hands-down. And unfortunately, due to this prime factor, Toyota's in India are always sold at a significant premium. At least, now we have a worthy contender for the mono-machine "Fortuner". In fact, this will be worrisome news for Jeep, Skoda, and MG, if this is coming to India. Of course, the X-trail is definitely an enthusiast's car that adds fuel to the fire for other brands.
2. Nissan's future in India looks so bleak, that it desperately needs something strong to prove itself and make a strong stance. While Kicks is outgoing (anytime), only with Magnite, there is nothing aspiring to go with a reputed brand like Nissan in India.

Re: 2022 Nissan X-Trail spied in India

Correct me if I’m wrong here but wasn’t X-Trail a CBU when it was earlier launched in India and hence the higher price that time.

This time around it should be competing against Compass and C5 Aircross if it comes to India but the 1.5 would be a downer if it enters that territory.

Re: 2022 Nissan X-Trail spied in India

Nissan India needs a product like this in order to rebuild its brand equity and identity as a JAPANESE manufacturer. A product which embodies its values, as opposed to reskinned Datsuns and Dacias. No offense to the owners of the aforementioned rebadged cars, they may very well fit their intended purpose, but they do not really represent Nissan.

It is confusing though, because globally the Nissan Qashqai also competes with the likes of the Tucson and CR-V. Size wise the X-Trail is bigger than the Qashqai. It could be positioned as a direct competitor to the Kodiaq and the BoF crowd.

Re: 2022 Nissan X-Trail spied in India

Could this be the big unveil on Tuesday ? But who will buy this if priced at 35+ lacs ex showroom ? The Nissan brand has no pull left and is relegated to being a budget brand now, even behind Hyundai / Kia ! I can see this selling in decent numbers only if priced well with the top end being ~25lacs ex showroom.

Re: 2022 Nissan X-Trail spied in India

I think a brand has only two option to survive in India. A premium luxury brand with premium cars selling at a premium where the numbers do not matter so much. The other option is to have mass market products with one or two products in high range to show the technology. Today the mass products are in the range of 5-25 lakhs ex show room price. Beyond this very few products are selling in good numbers. Fortuner is an exception. Nissan should not try to compete with Toyota in this category. A few good products are finding it difficult in this category.
There is no doubt Nissan has excellent product Globally. But they are yet to taste success in India. Better they concentrate on B2, C1 and C2 segment before venturing into D segment. For survival they need more Dealers, Service center, vendor network along with numbers sold. They didn't pay much attention to Kicks which otherwise was a good product. They should work on this car in some other AVATAR. May be multiple powertrain along with options like Mild Hybrid, e-Power Hybrid, Plug-in-Hybrid etc. A pure electric would only sell more in sub 20 lakh bracket. This is not a mass market strategy as yet.
We want Nissan to succeed, for market needs good competitor.

The Nissan XTrail comes with ePower Hybrid

The 1.5 turbo petrol powers the generator which charges the battery which drives two motors one for the front and one for the rear wheels

So its a self charging EV you could say

The engine never drives the wheels.

Thats how the Nissan Hybrid is different from the other Hybrids like Toyota.

If the X-Tail e-power is indeed being launched in India, this could be one of the most exciting launches of the year The fit and finish and build quality seems very good and close to the Europeans. The interiors look luxurious! It has a very sophisticated hybrid system with two separate electric motors for the front and rear. Also a turbocharged engine and not an NA one as found in Toyota Hybrids. Three rows of seats, AWD, 0-100 in under 7 seconds and 211 PS total system power is very impressive indeed! The total combined torque from front and rear electric motors is 525 NM! This is seriously good and exceeds the torque from even the massive 2.8L Turbodiesel in the Fortuner. The icing on the cake is 18 kpl fuel efficiency from a large 3 row petrol SUV. The driving féel will be close to that of a pure EV since the petrol engine never directly engages with the wheels and is always operating at its optimal range to power the inverter and the battery.

This one will go up against the Kodiaq and Fortuner in terms of pricing, In my mind, this is a more luxurious, fun-to-drive and economical to run package than the Kodiaq or the Fortuner. I do hope Nissan launches the AWD and not the FWD version, the latter has only one electric motor and is slower.

Beg to disagree. The 2.5 NA petrol engine will be a slow and lame choice in the 45 -50 akh segment where I expect X-trail will be launched. It will never be able to compete on power and performance with the 2.0 turbopetrol on the Kodiaq or the 2.8L turbodiesel in the Fortuner.

Re: 2022 Nissan X-Trail spied in India

If they launch the hybrid AWD in the 30-35lac range it can sell. It's a good car and can compete with the fortuner if marketed and supported well. But without the strong hybrid system it's a dead product at >25lacs ex showroom for the awd. As someone with 3 nissan cars I wish them the best and hope they survive and improve the brand image

Re: 2022 Nissan X-Trail spied in India

It is very good that Nissan is bringing a new product in the market, hope Nissan will always remain in the Indian market. As GTO sir has said that this car can be launched in a budget of 35 lakhs, in this budget I don't think this car will do well in the market.
