Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

Mod Note: Our Maruti Invicto Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

Maruti will sell its own version of New Gen Toyota Innova.

Quote:
The new Innova Hycross will be shared with Maruti and sold as a cross-badged product.

The new version of the MPV will be a front-wheel drive model.

To sport a 190PS+, 2-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine and no diesel option.

The new Maruti MPV will share its underpinnings and specifications with the Hycross.

It will be a premium alternative to the Kia Carens, but a more affordable option to the Carnival.

Re: Next-generation Toyota Innova spotted in India

It looks like a Toyota Mobilio with exactly the set of features an Innova customer does not want in the first place.

For touring this Hybrid will run on only petrol most of the time and will become very expensive. Front wheel drive might not be great when you need to go to your manufacturing sites or fields.

The same vehicle with Maruti badge will totally remove the snob value. A politician or businessman will not touch it anymore.

And what is that nonsensical price of almost 42 lakhs on road for the top end. I bought a ZX last year and it costed me 31 lakhs on road including ransom/blackmail accessories and insurance. No amount of reliability will ever make an Innova worth 42 lakhs. It's not like it will it make you younger and increase your life span when you drive it.

With bad product planning and already poor pre-sales I have a weird feeling this might just bomb.

Looks like two different pieces of information have been mixed to create this mumbo-jumbo!

There is no chance the TNGA-C platform Innova HyCross will be rebadged by Maruti Suzuki.

The HyCross is not going to compete with the Carens.

The MPV that Maruti may rebadge can be the Toyota ‘Taisor’ which was just trademarked and will be placed lower to the Innova Crysta. The Innova HyCross will be priced above the Crysta.

And Innova brand going to Maruti is enough for me to consider the death of the ‘INNOVA’ brand in India.

The outcome is, whatever the case maybe, there is that an MPV from Toyota, that will be shared with Maruti Suzuki.

I suspect it will be the stretched Yaris Cross that is being developed and will finally make its way to India.

This is what Toyota had said in its filing:

Quote:
“Your company is preparing for CMPV (C-segment multi-purpose vehicle) launch in FY23, which is produced not just for company but also will be the first cross badge Toyota vehicle being offered to MSIL (Maruti Suzuki India Limited)."

Made a quick call to someone who has a reputation of being 100% correct always when it comes to Toyota and he simply rubbished this idea - he had to say that Maruti isn't allowed to touch or even come close to any actual MPV or SUV of Toyota (Innova and Fortuner he meant).

Market speculation is that it could be a CSUV from the Toyota stable.

re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

I will be speculating the opposite, just a wild guess, can Toyota Taisor be a rebadged Ertiga or XL6? Toyota Innova has climbed up the price ladder a lot and with the Hycross slated to be at premium over Crysta, this may fill the gap.

Toyota does sell the Suzuki Ertiga as the Toyota Rumion in South Africa and some other markets.

re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

So how will MSIL achieve a price reduction from the Toyota version ? Or will the Toyota version have a premium price tag just for the name, but most else being the same otherwise ?

I'm very much aware of this and also the Toyota Belta which is a rebadged Ciaz. What I'm trying to convey is that they may launch the Ertiga/XL6 with a name other than Rumion. That ways, they have an MPV range, starting from 10L to 40L. And likewise, Maruti may launch the rebadged Hycross. I feel that Toyota may not share the Crysta and Fortuner with Maruti.

re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

I don't understand the logic here. Re-badging a normal Maruti product to Toyota definitely increases the 'badge value' in buyers mind. But re-badging a Toyota premium product with a Maruti badge!! It may only look like Hycross but internally it would be 'all Maruti' and 'based' is just a marketing term here.

re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

I cant quite put my finger on it, but this just feels wrong. The "Innova" brand is quintessentially Toyota and represents its history, values and ideals more than any other car they sell here. Maruti re-badging it feels like it takes away something intangible from the Innova brand, like a part of its soul almost .

Not sure if I'm the only one seeing this from a philosophical angle.
