Skoda-VW Aurangabad plant switches to 100% green energy

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s Aurangabad plant has been certified as a ‘Green Energy Plant’ by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), as the facility completes its transition to 100% green energy.

As part of the VW Group’s goTOzero mission, the Aurangabad plant increased its capacity usage of green energy and commissioned a 980 kWp rooftop solar powerplant to meet 40% of its annual energy requirement in 2018.

With the transition to green energy, the carmaker estimates to achieve a 48% reduction in CO2 every year. In the long term, the VW Group aims to become a carbon-neutral company by 2050.

I'm noticing many small to medium enterprises making a paradigm shift towards green energy. This is a good initiative done by the Volkswagen group and I hope more companies follow this suit rather sooner than later as climate change poses a real threat. Further to this, it also lifts their image post the Dieselgate scam.
