According to a media report, Kia is set to showcase the next-generation Carnival in India next month. The MPV, along with the Sorento SUV, will be part of Kia’s Auto Expo 2023 line-up.



The fourth-generation Kia Carnival made its global debut in August 2020. The new MPV is larger than the model currently sold in India. It is available in 3-row or 4-row seating configurations and can accommodate up to 11 passengers.

The new Carnival has a dual display that includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment and a similarly sized digital instrument cluster. The infotainment and climate control functions can be controlled using touch-sensitive buttons on the dashboard.

Globally, the fourth-generation Carnival will be offered with 3 engine options. These include a 3.5-litre GDi V6 petrol, a 3.5-litre MPi V6 petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. An 8-speed automatic transmission is offered as standard across all variants.



The Sorento is essentially Kia’s version of the Hyundai Santa Fe. It’s a 7-seater SUV offered with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol with mild-hybrid tech or as a plug-in hybrid along with a 2.2-litre diesel engine.

I hope the Indian Market gets a petrol-powered Carnival as well this time around, for those who don’t want a diesel one.

Sorento can give stiff competition to the likes of the Kodiaq, Meridian and Fortuner. Bring it on Kia. But Kia has to offer it with both a petrol and diesel if it wants to make a dent on any of the other mentioned SUVs.

Looking at how the EV6 is flying off shelves even at 70 Lakh, shows that even a mass-market brand can make some very high quality cars.

Exactly, given the Tucson pricing. Sportage is an excellent proposition if priced a bit lower. Sorento is a segment higher and volumes in that segment may not be too encouraging for a mass segment player (EV6 is anyways there as their Halo product).

The headlights on the Sorento is at its traditional location and looking good and thankfully Kia is not following Hyundai's current family design pattern of having the headlights way below on the bumper which looks plain ugly/distasteful.

India will likely get only the diesel powertrain, a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel unit producing 201hp and 440Nm

The Kia Carnival used to be marketed as the Sedona and Grand Sedona in some markets, but the Sedona name was retired globally and the car is now sold as either the Carnival or Grand Carnival.

But what on earth is KA4??

Now maybe Kia is trying to recall its sedan lineup nomenclature. What was formerly the Kia Optima in the US is now the Kia K5, and some of Kia’s other sedans are named the K9, K8 and K3. Out of these, only the K3 is the less commonly used name for the respective car (most markets call the K3 the Forte or Cerato).

It’s not just sedans. Kia also markets the Seltos, Sportage and Stonic as the KX3, KX5 and KX1 in China respectively.

…either that or Kia is trying to sell this car to a lot of North Bangaloreans. That’s the only reasoning I can come up with for naming a car KA4

Ah. Well that makes a lot more sense.

Odd that they’re teasing it with the internal codename though. It’s like Toyota teasing the Hyryder as ‘#AllNewD22’.

The KA4 will probably be sold with the Grand Carnival / Carnival branding, I don’t think Kia will come up with a new name for India at a time when they’re trying to streamline their nomenclature globally.

While new Carnival could be launched in India later this year, Sorento might not be launched anytime soon.

Hope they do launch Sorento and at some future date the Telluride atleast as a halo model. That's one attractive SUV!
